I have been through test after test and now they say that there is nothing wrong with me. That I am just getting old. This weakness and poor balance came over me so suddenly. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be my age?

if it was sudden, then change your Doc. Remember, we employ them, not the other way around!!!!
They are not God's!!! Don't be afraid to assert yourself and change Dr's
Let me know what is happening!!

Hola from southern Mexico :)
I read your symptoms and agree with the gals, you are not old. Something is making you weak, if this Dr. has no clue, please consult a good internist and get some testing. I sure will be praying for you to get a grip on this, you deserve to enjoy life to the fullest you can.
Charlene :)
PS, you've already had some testing, maybe think allergies, or neurological issues. Whatever, God is able to help you in the midst of whatever.
Please don't worry about what you don't know, but do find out.
Much care & prayer, Charlene :)
I am a 71 year young woman suffering with RA. I, too, experience weakness and loss of balance. I have joined a Yoga group, and after a few months, I have found that my balance is improving. You should try it. Also, a general exercise program should improve your weakness. Good luck!
Hi, I'm sorry to hear of your problem. Have you been seen by a neurologist yet? it's just a thought.
I agree with all the posts...just because the doc can't find what is wrong does not mean nothing is wrong!
Hi there Sahoot OMG ! there could be so many reason you are so weak did that Dr. do a complete blood work before he decided to say your getting old ? Thats the same way I felt when this spine Dr. didnt examine me and told me do PT and see him in six months when my vertebrae touching and grinding vertebrae with each movement ,pull or stretching. please Sahoot if you are not happy with your physician care and if you can ask for another physician ,I really want another Physician but the head of Neurologist sent me back to that physician because all my other physicians I seen since the spine specialist sent me on my way said I needed to see pain mangement and someone to treat my back, from my physical therapist to my internal medicine Dr. and my gynecologist/urologist has told me and now I am back at the spine instittute where I took my self the first time last year.which was a waste of my PTO and risky cause I was still working on my dry vertabrae. Good luck on getting your care I hope you find out before something serious happens, I can give you a few suggestions that could make you weak ,low potassium , low iron, low blood pressure could be a few reasons and maybe thyroid problem. Those are some questions to ask the next time you see a physician ,Ok good luck: )
Oh you had test after test then it sound like Fibromyalgia did any one see if you have any pressure points?and monitor how long your weakness been going on maybe its menere disease I dont think i spelled it right but its something with the ear which makes you be off balance and weak Its so many things to check into for your symptoms.
I am recovering from bypass and it does not appear to be going as 'planned'. I also have OA and fibro.
I would say those issues complicate anything and everything. I recently began feeling very weak after
trying a new fibro drug.....Savella. I will stop it Mon.and switch to Cymbalta just for another shot at pain reduction.... no high hopes. But the intense weakness that you mentioned is scary. If you are getting old, and we all are , nothing comes on suddenly. Try another doc!!!!!!!!!!How is your heart and your general circulation? Had your bloodpressure checked ? Getting old is not a disease nor the cause of any disease.!! Good Luck!
Yeah, you got to move it or lose it. 54 is not old.
Sahoots,
I haven't read any of your previous posts so I don't know if you have arthritis. It seems like you must since you are on this website. Arthritis is an autoimmune disease and symptoms wax and wane. Something else going on in your body may be causing your arthritis make you more weak. This may have come on suddenly. It may have been a virus that didn't make you all that ill, an allergy, a minor injury, an insect bite, or something that didn't seem all that important at the time.
The good news is if it was something minor that the doctor can't find and tests can't detect it may go away as sudden as it came. Depression, anxiety, or PTSD can also have symptoms of profound weakness.
I hope you are feeling better soon.
How come patients seem to understand more than the docs?! I am going today with the same complaint....sudden profound weekness . I am four months past my bypass and kept thinking how I would be able to climb stairs again and get through the supermarket and none of it 'happened. Heart doc says he did his part............well somebody's part didn't work!!I have arthritis and fibro but this is , as you all described
sudden overwhelming weakness............ good luck to you all. hope you don't have young kids to chase around!

Did you have an MRI of the brain and spinal cord. I was totally fine until I was 43 and then the weakness fatigue and poor balance started. After many Drs opinions and much frusteration, I was finally diagnosed with adult onset Alexanders disease. Extreamly rare and usually seen in infants, I don't think much was known about it by the medical community and after loosing my 21 year old daughter and mentioning to the corner the the findings on my MRI that had everyone of my Drs perplexed, they came back with simular findings on her autopsy. She was diagnoses as having Rosenthal fiber in the brain stem, which they found to be an Alexanders disease finding. Eventually I had a DNA test and sure enough, I was diagnosed with adult onset Alexanders disease.
Sorry, I'm so wordy, but I ran out of space in my last post... It took 2 years to get a diagnosis and now that I have one, I'll admit it gave me much peace of mind but even tho there is no treatment nor cure. I can accept that, but searching for and answer was the most difficult. Google it and see if any of it sounds like anything you are experiencing. It seems as though the symptoms vary with every case. Best of luck to you and I'll keep you in my prayers. Remember, we are not alone and we are all here to help each other. God Bless.... Patti
