Celebrex

What do you think of this drug? My doc perscribed it and said that the risks are not bad considering my age (35) and health (good except my recent diagnosis of arthritis!)...After researching this drug however, I'm a bit scared to take it. I've taken ONE and I think it helped, however after doing some reading on the drug, I'm a bit freaked out now.

What do you guys think?

Celebrex did nothing for me, so my doctor had me try diclofinac ( which is a generic) and it helps me quite a bit. I have been taking it for quite a few years. I think medicines do react differently for all of us so if I were you, I would give Celebrex a try. Good luck.

I used it for about 3 years. It works but gets less effective over time. You'll find you need higher doses to get the same relief you had initially. I wouldn't take it again after all the reports that came out about it.

thanks guys. I just talked to my mom about it (she's a psyche nurse and has researched this drug for herself)..she said that at the dosage I was prescribed (200mg) it's safe...so I don't know...she also said that i had to take it every day to get relief..is that what you guys found?

Thanks for your time!

I've been on Celebrex for the past 2 years. It works wonderfully and I haven't had a problem even though I'm considered high risk with it.

I don't take it every day but when I do take it, I have no problems other than it takes a little while to work. I'm also on the same dosage. When I'm in flare, it works much better than anything else I've got in my cabinets.

Our 10 year old daughter has been taking Celebrex for 3 years now. Twice a day. It replaced Feldene for her, since that reacted with another med and caused her to lose her hearing for some time. She doesn't complain about stomach problems near as much as she did on the feldene.

I was prescribed Celebrex about a year ago and within a week I started having side affects. The side affect that I experienced was itching it felt as if my body was covered with mosquito's.

I was then given another anti inflammatory called Mobic, within 3 days my urine (sorry for being so graphic) turned the color of tea that had been freshly made without ice ever being placed into in and the tea becoming watered downed.

I can only take Alieve (over the counter) which contains some of the same ingredients as Celebrex and Mobic but I don't experience any side affects with the Alieve.

Celebrex has worked well for my osteoarthritis. I've taken a 200 mg daily dose, daily, for two years and had no side effects. My understanding is it is not like a pain killer, which you take only when you have pain. It's meant to be taken regularly. You may want to try it for a week to see if you have any side effects and to see if you feel any improvement in your symptoms. If you have no problems, and you have no side effects, then it would seem to be working well for you.

I am glad to hear that Celebrex worked for you.

My doctor took me off the medication because he did not feel comfortable with me having side effects so early in my use of Celebrex. Besides the itching was awful. My husband and I was at Denny's and I thought that they had flee's in the restaruant. Then we got in the car and I continued to itch no matter where we went and by the end of the day I couldn't take it anymore.

I was on celebrex for many years and I have a history of stomach ulcers and gerd I never had any problem with celebrex it just stopped being effective after being on it so long now I am on mobic and it seems to be working good now .The drug companys have to report everything people experience when taking new meds even if it has nothing to do with the drug so sometimes the side effects make you feel like you shouldnt try it. But most people have little or no side effects

I've been on the 100 mg dose for at least 10 years, thankfully with no side effects. I tried the 200 and it did not work - I take it once a day with food. If I don't take it for a few days because I forget - I really notice it. I'm in a lot of pain from fingers to legs .... I'm happy with it.

I have been on Celebrex 100 mg for probably 10 years also. It works great for everything except the arthritis in my lower back. I had to come off of it before surgery the summer of 2007. I quickly found out how bad the arthritis was in all of my joints. It wasn't until I had to double it up because of increased pain in my shoulder the spring of 08 that everything finally quit hurting. I have a Rx that says I can take it twice a day but I usually take it just in the mornings before breakfast.

Celebrex worked great for me. My understanding is that many anti-inflammatories can cause serious problems, and not sure why celebrex was singled out. I think you have to decide if the benefits outweigh the risks.
