Is anyone else having severe problems with rheumatoid arthritis and a blood disorder? I take enbrel and I know the commercials says blood disorders can arise... my anemia has gotten worse since I was diagnosed with RA two years ago. Just wanted to get thoughts and if anyone has suggestions.

thanks.

Hello K,

Although I never exp a blood disorder with RA. My dad who died at 66 and had severe RA was hospitalized several times because of low red blood cell counts. Back then (1988)...Enbrel didn't exist so just be aware it may not be Enbrel that is the cause of the anemia. See ya on the NB Challenge site. ~Mi

I have been diagnosed with RA and AS. Before we knew what I had I was having severe pain, fatigue, sleeplessness. My iron count got so low I was having blackouts. The hematologist tells me it is called Anemia of Chronic Disease. The ongoing and severe inflammation causes the red blood cells to keep from fully growing in size. This does not allow them to carry enough iron. I have been using Enbrel. It does seem to help. I have been able to work a 40 hour week again. I still get very tired, but not 1/2 as bad as to used to be. It also helps with the pain.

The only blood disorder I know Enbrel is linked with is lymphoma, a cancer. People with common variable immune deficiency (CVID) are at risk for lymphoma and should be aware of the link. Lymphoma is one of the main causes of death for people with CVID.
