I started a new job on 4/21. I was laid off due to budget cuts on 1/3/08, so I've been job hunting for quite some time. I got so depressed that my shrink upped my Zoloft (I hated the higher dose). I must have sent out 30 resumes, and I was registered online with CareerBuilders and Hot Jobs. I interviewed for 10 or 11 jobs, in every kind of modality, including methadone maintenance to outpatient to residential. My last interview was with Phoenix House Outpatient in Manhattan. As soon as I met the Supervisor, I felt really positive about the place. She sent me to get a tx screen and had me interview with her boss. Good signs, right? and then I heard nothing for a week. I got depressed again and sent a text message to my best friend, saying that I was giving up the search, and applying for disability. As she was reading the text, Phoenix House HR called her to check my references. She sent me a msg telling me that, so I called her to find out what facility it was that called. While we're on the phone, I get an incoming call and it's Phoenix House offering me the job.
I've been there two weeks and so far, I'm not only happy, I'm incredibly impressed with the company. I like the people I work with. I like the clients. The hours are great for me (no early mornings, no late nights past 9, and unlike residential treatment, no one calling me at 2am to tell me someone relapsed). And the money is nearly what i was making before.
Best of all, they know I'm going to the Oley Conference in June and they're letting me have that week off, even though I just started.
