My experience at the Mayo Clinic, pt 9

Ralph and I have just gotten back to our hotel for liverwurst and banana. Not together. We are gong back for a EKG at 3:00. Talk to you after.

We got to the cardiac unit at 2:15, they called me in at 2:20. I knew better this time and I didn’t unload my computer. Three technicians and 1h 20m later, they tell me I have beautiful pictures. The guy seriously has two left hands. All is forgiven because he was tall, dark, and handsome. He was terribly intimate with my left breast. Yikes.

Tomorrow’s tests: Consultation with Rhumatology, eye exam, then final consult with the internist. We are hoping to get the cardiac consult can be moved to before the internist so she has all the info to make her decisions with. We are back at the hotel again and the darn internet wont work again. I will just have to wait till it decides to work to post this.

We are up at 6:00 am this morning. I blew a breaker at breakfast. OOPs. We have our first appointment at 7:45 am. Consult with rhumatology. No internet either this morning. Later…

We have come out of Rhumatology 20 min. late for our eye appmt. However being late has its advantages. I learned a whole lot. My thumb pain IS arthritis. Pat, you will be not so happy to know that it is probably work related. My shoulder is a bone spur and can be helped with PT. The bursitis however is not an easy fix. The doc said it is a very persistent problem and PT, shots, steroids is the answer. So far all the doctors have said things will get better with steroids. Ya, ya, ya. I’ve heard it before. I guess there is no choice.

We are waiting in the ophthalmology dept.. I should say I because Ralph has had 3 calls in the last ½ hr. Funeral homes. He diverted one of them till Monday. Lucky Greg. We are scheduled for physical therapy so they can show me how to do some of the shoulder and hip exercises to do at home. It’s on Monday so we are going to try to get it this afternoon sometime. If not then we are NOT staying till Monday. I WANNA GO HOME!

Wow are they thorough in there. I have asked my home eye doctor to make my bifocals at 12 inches so I can see what I am doing at work but they said they cant do it. Guess what. I have a prescription now for those great bifocals. I also had one eye get a little better! Go figure. They dilate everyone’s eyes when they come and that make s the ora’s and blur worse. Now for the bad news. I have cataracts in both eyes. That is what is causing my starburst, fireflies, fog and blur. Guess what caused them…STERIODS. Now is a good time for the proverbial quote…’cant live with them, cant live without them’.

We had a toasted meatball sub from Subway. Yummy. We are now sitting in the cardiac unit waiting for the consult because our appmt isn’t till Fri.. and also to see if we can get in as a stand by. We may be here for hours waiting so we found a secluded corner where we can watch all the people and we have a foot stool too. Ralph with his ipod and Harry Potter and me with my Dr. Phil. . . . . . 2h 25 m later we decided we will not be getting in so we went to our last appmt for today. We had permission to be late so then we waited for 50 more minutes. Next update will tell you what the outcome of all this is. Stay tuned.
