Anyone wanting to discuss Bipolar disorder?

0 Recommendations

I have Bipolar Disorder and was wondering why there is no group for this. I know that as a sufferer I was interested in finding something that would help, other than all the hardcore meds. I found something and I want to share it. Anyone up for starting a new group? Even if you don't have it and you just have ?'s let me know. I think support is vital for people with B.P.

I had mood swing problems but since taking ground flaxseed and lecithin over the last 3-4 years I've been much more even-keeled. The flaxseed has omega 3 fatty acids that are known to help mood and brain function. You also could take omega 3 fish oil capsules but I find the ground flaxseed that I get at my local supermarket to be less expensive and pleasant tasting. I sprinkle 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed meal and 1 tablespoon of lecithin granules a day on my cold cereal and milk or add it to my salads.

The ground flaxseed works better if you take it with cool or lukeward foods rather than anything piping hot. The lecithin granules are available at any health food store and also help brain functioning.

The effects were gradual and yet, ultimately dramatic--after taking them for a few months one day I noticed that I hadn't felt depressed in some time and though I still have issues but I don't experience depression over them.

I highly recommend these supplements to you as I, definitely, didn't want to take any psychoactive drugs and happily, I have found a very healthy and effective alternative.
The omega 3's in flaxseed and fish oils have many other benefits to the joints and heart as well so it's worth taking for those reasons as well.

Thanks for bring this topic up as I feel strongly that anyone with a mood disorder would benefit from omega 3 supplementation--it has been extensively studied by researchers to help with bipolar disorder as well as depression in general.

Thanks for the info about flaxseed, and Omega 3's I didn't know about flaxseed I will definitly look for it. What kind of Omega 3's do you take? I have learned of one made by a company from Canada that contains Tumeric, which is sorta like curry as used as a preservative. The tumeric is also good for inflamation. Gonna start it. I'll let you know. But thanks again.

The ground flaxseed I take has omega 3 fatty acids naturally in it--Bob's Red Mill is the brand I've been buying at my local supermarket for $3 a pound and since I only use about a tablespoon a day it lasts for quite a while. By the way, it should be kept refrigerated once opened. I even keep an extra bag of it in the freezer to preserve its potency.

Turmeric, a spice and ingredient in curry, has antioxidants and liver protecting properties so it's good for you, but it doesn't specifically benefit brain functioning the way the omega 3's found in flaxseed and fish oils do.
