I hadn't heard when my surgery was scheduled so today I contacted a Nurse Practioner in Cardiology and left a voice message asking if she knew when my next appointment would be.
About a half hour later I got a phone call from the office of the doctor who would be doing the surgery. My next appointment is July 6, when I will come in for some lab tests. Then my surgery will be on July 14. She said that I would be sent a letter with the details and what I would have to do. Im scheduled for a triple-bypass. The surgery will take place at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Thats a good hospital with a good reputation. Most of the doctors have dual appointments with the VAMC and the University of Michigan Hospital, which is located about a half-mile away. My doctor also holds a teaching position at the U of M hospital.
Its easier having some firm idea on when things will happen. Before I got the phone call today I didnt know how soon it would happen. It doesnt appear that I am really a high priority. I guess thats good.
