Hello everyone

By mere chance( my former doctor changed locations) I saw a new doctor today. This guy was great. It turns out he had a 5x bypass 17 yrs ago. He understood me like no one could unless you've been through this. I had my 4 way almost 2 yrs ago and feel like I'm having symptoms, palpitations, chest pain, sweating etc. He didn't just blow it off like other doctors. He's having me go for another stress test and an echo?, also more blood work. It's like I was directed to this doctor like I was directed to ask for a stress test they didn't think I needed in the beginning.
We'll see what's next.

I can't think of a better doctor than one who are been through it too. I wish we all would realize that our doctor/cardiologist works for us, and in most cases we do have options. I am really glad for you.

Hi Thank you so much for your comments. What is this echo test done for and why am I having it. The doctor said it was routine and not to worry.

Ed, an echo shows how the heart is working. I do not believe it shows the clogged arteries, you need a cath for that.
It shows how the heart muscle is working and also shows your valves to make sure they are ok. In my case they also get an 'Ejection Fraction' which lets them know how much blood is being pumped each beat. To make sure though, ask your doctor.

As has been stated, it shows the function of the heart, how much blood it's pumping and how the well the valves are working. It can also show the size of the heart with can be an issue if it's enlarged. It won't show any blockages. I had several before I had my bypass and I passed every single one. The reason? I'm an avid soccer player and my heart is super strong and compensated for the blockage. So, if the echo doesn't show anything, and you keep having symptoms, keep pushing your dock to find the problem. As they say, the Angiogram is the gold standard test. Plus, you get cool drugs with the angio so there's a bright side to the test. :)
