Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

0 Recommendations

Ok, so I just saw this heart bypass surgery video and I am totally freaking out.

Has anyone here ever undergone "TECAB"? (especially anyone male in their mid 60s? BMI: 30.1) My doctor said it is much safer than the original heart bypass surgery, and requires less recovery time, but the idea of a robot doing the work sounds a little disconcerting.

I have seen some things the robot does. I would have loved to have a robot and surgery between my ribs that have my sternum cracked. Be a pioneer and go for it.

I had the traditional heart bypass. If my doctor had offered me the TECAB and felt it would solve my heart problems, I would have said YES without hesitation. It will be a lot easier and less stressful on your body. The robotic arm will be under the guidance and control of your surgeon.

I don't usually answer unless I have personal experience with a problem but since they have robotic surgery in London Ontario at my hospital, all I have heard so far is only great things. Its faster, more exact, its new and it is less infection prone. It also takes the shakes out of the surgeons hands from the night before party. HA HA
I think you should go for it and not worry since worrying doesn't do a thing for you.

Hi heart-by-pass-soon,
Hey, I sent you a post the other night and told you to go for the robot...I then watched the entire surgery done by the surgeon/robot. I was very impressed. I think you will be sore as they go between your ribs ( like if they were putting in a chest tube) but it would be worth it. You will have a shorter recovery and everything. Let us know when you are scheuled for surgery and which way you decide to go. Good luck either way. Don't worry everything will be ok, either way you go!

Hi - you may have already had your surgery> hope it all went well for you. I just wanted to say if you haven't already had it, to go for it. Nothing can be worse than having you chest sawn open like a conventional bypass. Before my bypass, I had several different types of surgery and would always be straight up, drinking tea and sneaking outside for a ciggie before the sedation had even worn off (have given up ciggies now by the way) - but the bypass was something completely different. For the first 12 afters, I thought I was in a nightmare and wanted to die - the pain was horrific as were the chest drains, catheter, tube down my throat, etc and then for 6 weeks, it felt like my chest was going to rip open.
Sorry, I digress - let us know how your surgery went.
