Insomnia

Hello everyone,
My husband is now 4 weeks post-op from 3x triple heart bypass. Up until 2 days ago he wasn't having any problem sleeping. Now, he goes to bed and is still awake most of the night. He takes Ambien CR and it used to work but no more. Any suggestions? I am going to call the DR. in the morning.

My 4xCABG on 8/20/09 left me sleepless also. After about 3-4 weeks, I finally was able to get a full nights sleep. My doctor had me taking Ambien CR. It has no side effects and is non addicting. I can recall way to many sunrises, however the insomnia did go away. My most recent issue is the bottom of my sternum feels like it dit not fuse and the last two ribs shift around.

I had a posting on this as it was happening to me. It lasted about three weeks and was pure ell to get through. Ambien did not help. What seemed to break my insomnia was the ability to return to sleeping on my side. I am not a back sleeper and being forced to sleep on my back exclusively seemed to be a major contibutor. I am now taking a benadryl and an advil as a sleep aid if I need it.

Another person in my rehab class that is 2 weeks ahead of me had the same problem with it resolving itself after 2-3 weeks of insomia as well.

This too shall pass try to get comfortable and don't eat too much while you are awake.

Thanks Thirgulag
My husbands doc said to take a Benadryl + the Ambien for awhile until he gets his sleep pattern back. Because of his lack of sleep his blood pressure is low and he is very tired allot. He did sleep for 3 hours this afternoon which was good. With me going back to work my daughter is with him. She is also 5 weeks post-op from lower back surgery and will be off work another month.
