Ferrous sulfate vs Iron pills

0 Recommendations

My husband's Dr. prescribed Ferrous Sulfate 325 mg, when he came home from his by-pass last week, and I already had Iron tablets 27 mg. which I have been giving him instead of the other. Should I be giving him more of the iron 27 mg? His nurse when he left the hospital said I could just buy the over the counter but didn't go into details.

Hi Mindymork,

When I first went to the pharmacy to fill my scrips after I was d/c'd from the hospital after surgery, I was prescribed 324mg Ferrous Sulfate (Iron) pills to take as well. The pharmacy lady saw that I obviously looked like I had just been hit by a Mack truck, and so offered to collect the supplementals for me. I didn't realize until after about two weeks of taking my meds that she had inadvertantly given me the 27mg pills to take. When I went back to the pharmacy to ask about it, they went behind the counter and gave me the right dosage pills (which were much bigger than the 27 mg ones I was taking) and told me I could take 12 of the 27mg ones until they ran out, which I did. There are 324mg dosage pills available, you just have to ask for them. Hope that helped (sorry about the roundabout way I have of answering questions.....lol!).
