Bad gut bacteria infection, really stubborn bug

0 Recommendations

Hi all: Hope this note find you on the way to recovery. Today, my friend is 2 mos. post bypass. He had multiple complications, finally at home after almost 2 mos in icu, inpt and rehab. He is losing the will to live due to this gut bug that is sitting there and resistant to antibiotics. Although I imagine he is somewaht getting better as he was dc/'ed home, he is discouraged. Anyone with this type of infection in the group? What worked for you? I am even considering suggesting alternative therapy...at this point just want to help my friend keep fighting. After all, if he still here there must be a point.

As I had said earlier it takes abit of time to get rid of these bugs. When they sent him home did they give him drugs to take or have a nurse visit him? Does he still have an open wound?
They can't just send him home if he still has the bug.
As to your last sentence, yes there is a point. Get better and enjoy life again.

Thanks blkrino. He was sent home 6 days ago. Taking antibiotics by mouth. He still has the bug! Wound healing but not completely...why???

I just wanted to say until the wound has healed over treat it very carefully. Anything that comes in contact with it make sure is sterile. Anyone dressing it should follow sterile procedure. Its an opening into his chest so be careful.
Outside of that he should heal ok.
