Losing hope

0 Recommendations

We are on IVF #1 and I had my first u/s after 9 days of stiming. Only 4 follicles over 10.....they were 19, 17, 15, and 12. I don't understand....I had good response to the meds in past, I have a good FSH level, passed the clomid challenge ect. I even had 5.....yes 5 follicles for our 2nd IUI w/ only 75 u of Follisitm!!!!!!!!!!!! The only conclusion I can come to is that I respond too well to the BCP and Lupron.....has anyone else out there had this....where they have good response to the meds but the get over-suppessed by the Lupron? I know they can change the protocol next time ....but I was so hanging onto the hope that this first IVF would go "as they expected". Even the IVF nurse this morning was surprised. They are going to go ahead with the ER because my E2 keeps rising like they want it to. I went from 269 on day 7 to 745 after 9 days. I can't seem to stop crying. I held it together in the office this morning but once I got to my car the flood gates opened. I know there is still hope for us in this cycle but I can't seem to wrap my arms around any today.

Lupron Follistim Clomid Stress

I am soory your not getting the response you had planned on. I too believe I was oversuppressed by lupron and bcp. I had 20 antral follicles which decreased to 10 at baseline ultrasound, plus I was on 450 follistim for 9 days. Only had 12 eggs retrieved with 7 mature. BFN:(

going for IVF #2 in June:)

I am starting my first IVF in January and was wondering what kind of side effects you had from the injectables. I felt horrible on Femara (tried four failed IUIs this year) and I got sooo bloated my pants wouldn't fit. It looked like I was 3 or 4 months pregnant for a week or more and my stomach hurt often. Did you have these or different side effects preparing for your IVF? I just want to know what to expect. Thank you!

Hi Jessica,

I hyperstimed on Lupron and ended up in the hospital for 2 days. As my RE said 'you're in the less than 1% for hyperstim'. Guess I'm pretty sensitive to the meds. At that cycle I also developed cysts for the first time in my life. I have complete unexplained IF. DH sperm count is great and ovulate naturally each month.

So last month I was on 125 of Follistim, which worked fine but I only had 4 follicles over 10 at day 10. 2 at 17, 1 at 16 and 1 at 14. We had an IUI BFN last month and this month I started on 225 of Follistim and doing well. At the time of my Ovidrel injection on Sunday night I still only have 4 that are above 15. We'll see how it goes for the IUI #2.

Like you I'm worried that if we move on to IVF next cycle I'll have such low follicle counts that it will be very difficult to get even one that's viable.

Also, I'm 37 and DH is 35.

Babieswanted....I'm sorry for your BFN and wish you luck in June...are they going to change your protocal at all for IVF#2?

Heidi....I actually had a lot more side effects from the one month I took Clomid for the clomid challenge than any of the injectable medications.....I also had worse mood swings on the BCP that I took a month before this IVF. I seem to be more sensitve to the arifical hormones. I didn't have too many side effects from the Lupron expect for feeling more tired than usual. As for the injectables for this IVF...I am a lot more emotional than usual but I attribute that to the larger than normal dose of hormones cursing through me as well as the stress of being poked 1-5 times a day! I am starting to feel bloated from stimulting my ovaries however they are not near as soar as the month I took Clomid. I'm finding these meds are not nearly as bad as the Clomid.

Kimberly....I hope IUI #2 is the one for you!

Thanks for the support ladies! Jessica

Jessica,

I also responded too well to the Lupron. I went from 8 follicles to 2. I'm older so every little follicle counts. We ended up canceling.

I know that sometimes we get hung up on the quantity of follicles. I'm wishing you quality and lots of good luck. You will be in my thoughts.

I am dealing with the same thing. I just went in for my baseline visit after 3 weeks on OCPs and 10 days of lupron and only had 6 pre-antral follicles. This news was horrible and I cried all day yesterday. I have responded well in the past with just femara and follistim so I don't know where all of my eggs went. Maybe OCPs and lupron aren't for us. Hopefully things will still work out for us both!
