My RE instructed me to take only 5000U of Novarel instead of 10000U I took last time.

Why?

Miscarriage

This is just a guess but I had 59 follicles the first time and I used 10,000U and on the second IVF I had 25 so they used half. I think it matures the eggs. The first IVF I tried 4 different times to get pregnant with Fresh, and then three FETS. I got pregnant on a FET but had a miscarriage. The last three I had chemical pregnancies.

The second IVF with a new doc and the 5000 IUI turned out to 7 blasts with three transferred. I am pregnant with a singleton now and I feel like I was monitored a lot better with the new RE.

Good luck.

Jamie

Jamie,
Thanks!
I have way more follies than last time and then I took 10000--I guess that's why I'm confused and concerned that I didn't get enough!

I don't really know why they would switch the dose. I only wanted to say after all the super close monitoring they have done for us the past week, I am sure it is for a good reason. They want to add you to their BFP stats and I am sure they wouldn't jeapordize your chances by making haphazard decisions.
I would ask on Tuesday at ER so at least you feel more comfortable.
BEST OF LUCK!
Kathy

My RE uses 10000 with superovulation and 5000 with IVF, with a blood count the next day to be sure that hormone levels are rising appropriately; if not, then the other 5000 is given.

One website I checked said that the dosage varies by BMI. Another suggested using the lower dosage with higher numbers of oocytes. (no clue why)

I also was instructed to take half a dose of trigger, to reduce chances of OHSS (I was prone to it). If you have a ton of follies, he may be hoping to reduce your OHSS chances.

i took my novarel shot tonight 10,000 units, but after the shot i see that there is some medicine left in the vial. is this going to be a problem?
