Question about migraines

do u suffer and how often do u get migraines?? They are killing me. I woke up again this morning with a migraine.. and all its lovely symptoms. I had to wait a little over 2 hours before i could take pain medication to get rid of it. I am getting them more frequently as each month passes.

Mine come and go. I've linked mine mostly to foods with MSG. When it's not food related and they do start up I notice cluster headaches a few days before. I'm not only any pain meds so I usually suffer through it. Good luck I hope you can get some answers.

I wake up with them all the time. The pulmonologist told me this can be related to my sleep disorder. I used to have them precycle but now its all the time. I was prescribed frova and it really helps. Unfortunately it is quite expensive. I am sorry your suffering through these I know its horrible. Sometimes I will get a warning sign of an impending mg. I can have a metallic taste in my mouth, or nausea that starts before the temple pain. I have found the longer you wait the harder they are to get rid of. I pray you get some relief.

I'm sure I've mentioned my migraines are related to my Occipital Neuralgia. I wake up every morning to this and all it's lovely symptoms as well. Nausea with or without vomiting, neck pain, eye pressure. I'm waiting on injections from my Neurologist since the med he ordered which is to prevent them isn't working. Try putting a cool cloth over ur face and drink some water. Sometimes this helps me.

I hope u find relief.

I get them, too, and have since I was about 14 or so. Imitrex helps, but sometimes I get them daily for weeks on end, and my doc doesn't want me taking Imitrex every day, nor does my insurance company! And if I have to pay for them out of pocket, they're about $25/pill or more. Ugh! I usually wait for a few hours to see if it will fade back by itself before I finally take a pill; then sometimes it takes more than one dose to get rid of the headache.

But the thing that bothers me MOST is that when I have to call in to work (I usually suck it up and go, but then I get nausea, too, I just can't!) I get grief about not going in! I guess this is just a variation of the "you don't look sick" comment.

I get migraines too. My doctor said they are related to female hormones being out of whack. I think I may have food allergies too but unsure of to what. Sometimes it seems when I watch too many tv shows in a row I wake up the next day with one as I have sensory processing disorder and think that too much tv overloads my brain. Sometimes I get them when my blood sugar is low from not eating for a long time. It takes a while to figure out your triggers. Everyone is different. My sister had them first and is on medication that she takes every day. I started getting them about 8yrs ago and on sumatriptan and take it only as needed as it is expensive and my insurance only allows 9 pills /a month.

I have been suffering from headaches since I was 11 years old. As I go older, they turned into a combination of migraines, headaches, tension etc. Since my late 4o's they became so bad that I have had physical therapy, accurepuncture, radio frequency, osteopathic therapy and anything else that they told me may help. NOTHING helped... In the last two years I started to see a physical therapist who does not use any pt equipment. It's all hands on. He does what they call strain counterstrain. This has been the best I have felts in years. My headaches/migraines were daily and I noticed that the pain would wake me up from a deep sleep. I began to think that maybe the pain was coming from my neck and would activate my headaches. I was at a point in my life and living pain was no longer something that I could do. At times, these headaches would last 24 to 48 hours.

Check with your therapist and see if they do this type of therapy. Not all therapist are trained to do this procedure.

I have included a website youtube so that you can get more info.... Good Luck.

The hardest thing to do, but the most important, is to find your trigger (or triggers). Food allergies are a very common trigger for migraines. Keeping a food journal can help determine if this is your problem. The following link lists many common food triggers:
http://www.webmd.com/migraines-headaches/guide/triggers-specific-foods
My neurologist gave me a list of foods to avoid for a month. Then one at a time I was able to add them back into my diet to see if they would trigger a migraine. I really miss bacon, but I do not miss the migraines.
Good luck,
Rebecca

thank you all for your advice. I havent had a migraine in 3 days and i am loving it!!! I know it might be short lived but.... i am glad to get this break. I appreciate the link that you posted Rebecca. I never realized how many things could trigger a migraine. I have hardly any appetite so i am not eating much at all, i didnt realize that was a trigger. I have given up some things like coffee and chocolate about 2 months ago because i heard that it can trigger FM symptoms. I am going to be more careful of what i eat and stay away from those trigger foods. They may taste good but it is not worth having a migraine afterwards!!!

thanks again,
hugs, chris

Chris,

I'm glad your finding some relief from your migraines. I'm on day 2 and it's awful! I don't get my pain injections until the fall and Advil doesn't even touch the pain. Massage just makes it worse believe it or not. I just want this pain to stop. I'm so stiff and can barely move this morning and with the migraine and muscle pains I am not looking forward to this day at all.

Mist,

Thank you, I spoke too soon. after i made the post i laid down on the couch and fell asleep till around 7:30... and i woke up with yet another migraine!!!! I jinxed myself big time!!! I was gratefull that I was time to take my pain meds. It didnt kill the migraine, but made it bearable. if you dont mind me asking.... what type of pain injections do you get? do they work? How often do you get the pain injections? sorry for asking so many questions.... just trying to find alternatives...

thanks again,
hugs, chris

Chris,

I haven't started them yet it will be my first one. It's an Occipital nerve blocker. It's supposed to numb the nerve that's causing the pain. It takes 2 weeks to work then it should last for a month then I go again for another injection. My Neurologist will be giving me them in the Fall. It seems so far away and in the meantime I'm suffering while I wait. I have to wait coz my Neuro wants confirmation from my ENT specialist that I don't have a vestibular problem due to the Vertigo and dizziness.

I hope u find relief.

Kelly:)

Kelly, thanks for the info.. please let me know how the shot works once it starts working.

hugs, chris

I will. I am terrified of needles so I'm very scared of this procedure. I checked it out on You Tube probably wasn't my greatest idea and it looks brutal
