Prolactinoma & Dostinex (infertility)

0 Recommendations

I am 38 and have been diagnosed with a pituitary microadenoma (benign tumor) which causes my prolactin levels to be elevated. Since October 2007 I have been taking Dostinex (Cabergoline) .05 mg per week. I never had regular cycles, and this medication makes them regular like clockwork. I had two miscarriages prior to being diagnosed with the tumor; my doctor thinks the elevated prolactin MAY have caused the miscarriages. It was very easy for me to get pregnant those two times. Since I have been on the medication I have been unable to get pregnant, despite the fact that I am seemingly ovulating on a regular schedule. My doctors do NOT think there is any correlation with the medication. Has anyone esle had experience with this medication affecting their fertility?, or know of a top-notch specialist with prolactin issues?

I had a pit tumor that started as a prolactinoma then morphed into a ACTH one (which is probably was my adrenals all along -- very long story) --

the best doc i know of up in your area is Dr. Mary Lee Vance at UVA (i think that's the right school) -- you can look her up on www.csrf.net

Hi Beth,
I have a microadenoma prolatinoma. I am on bromocriptine. I found out about the tumor in 2004, started taking bromo. Got prego in 2005, miscarried at 12 wks. They tested the baby, and it miscarried because it was a complete trisomy, meaning that the baby had three sets of chromosomes. Got prego again in 2006. Had baby girl, Eliza in Jan 2007. Breast feeding was INTERESTING!! Extra prolactin made me able to feed a small village. I got mastitis like 10 times. You can do it though!!! I suggest seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. When I was on the East Coast, I saw Dr. Albert El-Roeiy in Chester, PA. He was great. If you miscarry again, MAKE them test the baby. I'm sure it was some genetic thing. It almost always is and then you don't feel like it is your fault.
