I have Cushings due to exsesive steriod therepy for a lund disease (ABPA) I have gained 100 lbs in ten months and in the process lost everything else. My house my car, my health and sanity as well as my job (unpaid leave of absense). Today my insurance was cancelled because I cant afford the premiums. Is any one else out there suffering with this powerful drug? Please help I am miserable and in a desparate situation.

I'm so sorry to hear about things. It seems like when it rains it pours. I have alot of things going on in my life as well. The only thing that gets me thru each and every day is the good Lord above. I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts. I have faith and trust in him and I don't have a clue what I'm going to face in this life but I do know that he has a plan and purpose for me. I always keep this thought in mind at all times and I hope that it will be of comfort to you. You are never alone, Jesus is always with you and After Every Storm There Is A Rainbow!!!! I'm still looking for that Rainbow. We never have enough friends. I have Asthma and have been on Prednisone but it made me miserable. It made me swell bad and gain weight, I too have been on meds in the past that cause you to gain weight and I know that it does not help the situation. Have you talked to your Dr. about another possible treatment??? What are your Drs. doing to help you with the weight gain?? I hope that things will start getting better for you soon. Thank you for you encouraging message. It is so hard the transformation of my body is horrible. But I do have faith in God. Although I get so discouraged that I cant do the things I used to do. There is no other treatment I can have. The problem is weening off the prednisone I am down to 20 mg and I feel horrible. I hope someday I will be off completly but i fear I have been on so long there is more damage done to my body than I know of. But I keep going everyday and do the best i can.
how long have you been on it? My friend also has a lung disease (interstitial). I've seen her gain lots of weight over the past year or so.
I also was on prednisone as a child for some type of odd dermatitis. But it didn't hit me hard until I got Cushing's disease, which, you may be on the verge of getting. if you have been on it for a long time, chances are you may never get off, as it will blow out your adrenal glands.
To cure my Cushings (i had a pituitary tumor) they removed the tumor, but that didn't fix it, so they removed my adrenal glands. I take 20 mg of Cortef daily as a maintenance dose (b/c I don't make any) which is a MUCH smaller dose of prednisone. I also have to take fludrocortisone, b/c i don't make it either.
You have got to go see a good endo and get them to work hand in hand with your rheumatologist. Rheums are all to happy to throw out the predisone to fix everything. I have also posted info in the financial help section that I had come across.

Just remember your doctor is your EMPLOYEE. If he is not doing his job right, fire him.
