Improvements over time

Please forgive my attempt at humor. My sense of "irony" has helped me stay sane over the years. It is one of the tools I have developed to help me accept an unacceptable situation.
I have found that the some of the effects, mostly the damage to the central nervous system have not resolved but are improved and I have learned some ways to work around them. More discouraging to me early in my recovery was the exhaustion, the memory issues and the malaise- low grade fever, continuing to feel tired-that were apparent every day. To help with that took alot of rest and I am now remembering, quiet. I remember having alot of irritability that was really distressing to me. All of this was compounded by the fact that I was then about 22 years old and life had really changed for me. Most of the friends I had at that age simply "didn't get it"; I felt like I imagined some 70 would feel. Anti inflammatories like advil helped and so did resting, but it was largely "tincture of time". I was already living on my own then and definately not into moving back home and I was lucky enough to have one or two friends who were able to grasp my situation and one of these (still my best friend to this day although he lives 3000 miles away) would come over to my house with a stack of rented movies and just sort of camp out for a few days when he could get away. I think he had to hitchike. Truly my hero! And so I got better a little at a time.
