How to help a loved one recovering from E

My mother went into the hospital October 2nd and was diagnosed with Herpes Encephalitis (although a spinal tap was not done) She was not in the ER and was almost comatose. Acyclovir was administered (every 12 hours at first) then finally at the correct dose of every 8 hours. We were there around the clock and I think she would've died if we hadn't been there to feed, bathe and take care of her. She was not given an IV for hydration and became dehydrated. After 12 days she was moved to a re-hab/nursing home to continue to receive Acyclovir and IV hydration. They missed 3 doses because the doctor had failed to order the meds. She is now home with me and I am administering IVs through her PICC line with the help of home nursing.

SHE HAD A FLU SHOT THE WEEK BEFORE SHE GOT SICK. How many other people have gotten this through shots? WEBMD and Merck both list immunizations as possible causes, but none of the Neurologists or Infectious Disease specialists knew of this as a cause.

It has been 3 weeks and 2 days since she got sick. My father has Alzheimer's and my mom was his caregiver so both of them are living at my house with my husband and 4 boys!

She hasn't had any seizures, but her personality is very flat. Memory is bad and she sleeps about 21 hours a day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
