My son is recovering from post infectious encephalitis from mono (EBV). He got sick 19 months ago. I am hoping I would find someone who got encephalitis from mono and learn about their experience. Also, my son has no long term memory (long term event retrograde amnesia). Am wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and how they managed. My son is doing well. I would be happy to share his experience with anyone. He was in a coma, for a short time. He woke up very impaired. He has made an amazing recovery. He has very good doctors. It has been a lot of work to get him the medical help he needs and even more work getting him the academic support he needs at school.
Thanks! jackieb
I have far past long term memory, but my memory ends at age 11 & comes back about 3 years ago when somethings important enough for me to remember it.
My mom is a special ed teacher & I get all my schooling from her even though I'm an adult. She taught me to add & subtract again. I can't do difficult math, but I can do some. I can't read books, but now I read a little then make notes about what I read.
We play a ton of memory games to help me exercise my memory.
I'm sorry your son has E, but I'm glad you found this site & hope you can find some support.
Michelle
