I was just woundering ....is there anyone who has a speech probblem
Hi Michael and welcome here.
Speech is a complex process, what sort of problems do you have with it?
Geoff,
I have a few problems with speech. 1 I can't seem to shut up and sometimes I don't even realize what I'm saying.
I can't always come up with words, but I am starting to be able to just try to find other words that are close.
Michelle
My speech is harsh...it is hard to understand me at times
ya I understand that ...mine is harsh and hard to understand....its hard to say what I'm wanting at times
Having trouble coming up with words seems to be fairly "normal" with E's. It's not just people with E though.
I have to be told to slow down, change my tone, and change my volume. I forgot I have those problems.
I have problems with my friends who have trouble hearing because I can't control my volume. If I try really hard sometimes I can make my voice a little lower and that helps for hearing impaired people to hear me, but I have to completely focus on that.
Michelle
I have problems using the right words or even thinking of what the right word might be. LOL. And then when people try to help me figure it out I forget what I was talking about in the first place!
Ingrid
Ingrid I know how you feel on that note.....lol
I often say the exact opposite of what I mean, for example "hot" instead of "cold," etc. And I lose words, too.
All of the above and also I'll be having a conversation and stop because I've forgotten what I'm talking about. The other problem I have is following other peoples conversations.
take care
Lynnie xoxo
Following other people's conversation is difficult for me. I have less trouble with written conversations as in books or in emails or forums such as this. It may be that I have an auditory processing disorder.
I also have had problems with word recall for my entire life, luckily my peers are catching up with me as we all age.
Oh and my speech is somewhat monotonistic. I don't put in the normal inflections other do.
I'm with you, Lynn-Joy...It's not so much the speech thing as it is following the conversation. It can be easy to stop to ponder a word or have some unrelated connection pop up and by the time I get back to what the conversation is about, I no longer can remember very well what we were talking about. That's when it's time to shut up and start mumbling "uh-huh" for a while until I can rembember it again. Now, what was I writing about?
Regards,
Bob
I say the opposite from what I mean sometimes. I mix up words with the similar pronunciations.
I don't have any inflections from what I'm told. I think I think them and they just don't come out. I've found that happens too often recently.
Michelle
one thing I've noticed since I've had Encephilitis is how many people will interrupt you when you are speaking, now that for me is a disaster as whatever I was saying just leaves me, then they say your quiet today, it's not that I'm quiet I'm just trying to remember!!
I also have problems reading , it used to be one of my greatest joys, now I can never take in what I'm reading so I've become a CD junkie.
Sorry I've gone off the track of the subject, speech, Oh well if you guys don't understand nobody will!!
Take care Lynnie xoxoxoxo
You didn't go off track. Distraction is a big part of why I have problems with conversation. My problem is I'm never quiet especially when I lose track.
I don't read books anymore and I used to love it I've been told. Now I'm a research junkie or as I call it a research-aholic.
Michelle
hey Lynn-joy I understand I get interrupted all the time and noone will take me serious. Because I repeat myself alot of the times So I keep quit most of the time.
