Joy? Poll

Michele, As always you brought up an excellent topic. Smiling.

Question:
Any change in feeling of enjoyment post E?

Discussion:
Looking for postive emotions here.

Still laugh at a good joke? Get that mushy feeling watching a cuddly puppy or kitten at play? Love the smell of a newborn baby? Get excited when you see a rainbow in the sky? Do you smile? Sing along to your favorite song? Add to the list please.

Again a lovely topic, smiling and good positive emotions.

When I came out of my coma, during the first year of E. I was incapable of expressing positive emotions. I felt dull, void, empty, sad, echoing with silence and shock at the realisation that I was no longer there.

It is only by daring to push forward, go out, meet people, reestablish contacts, get in touch with the world, finding freedom and autonomy, and tuning in with the positive elements of the world, that I started to learn to feel, to smile (at first), the find humour, to express humour, and to laugh!!!

By the way, if you have any good anecdotes concerning your E. experience, that will help us all to see it differently, and maybe even laugh, whynot share it with us? After all, as you all said, there is no better medecine than laughing and smiling!

With a big smile to you all

Dignity

Sometimes my brain reverses what it should do with emotions so I laugh when I'm sad or cry when I'm happy.

I think I actually enjoy my life more that I did before E. I know I have support and I don't think I cared if I did before.

Easy one! Just click on anyone's name and you will see anything they have posted.

Oh yes, JOY and LAUGHTER, a great combination. Read back a few months ago and read what I posted about my peanut butter and miracle whip sandwhich... oh that will definitely make you laugh.

A friend told me this story about her young son, about 5 yr old I think.

He had a pair of red boot. One day he went up stairs and put them on. When he came down, his mom told him "Son their on the wrong feet." And he said (as only a little person would) "Mom, these are the only feet I have.!!!"

When I was in the hospital they gave me too much thyroid medication. Way too much. Everything was funny. I laughed all the time. I was so confusing to the doctors they gave me antidepressants to go home with. I never even filled the perscription. I had never felt so happy before.

The first year post E I was extraordinarily happy .... could feel a renewed sense of joy by the simple things in life, which are truly the most important anyways. Joy, no problem. But ,of course, not all the time.

From the start was sort of like having a child's mind. Sweet and simple. Sure it was hard dealing with everything but I can clearly say, I find more joy in things. Knowing I came so close to dieing, yet now only suffers with memory problems, I can't help but find positive in what I can. Now of course I get fried and sick of this memory problem day in and day out so I guess I WANT to find good out of SOME thing. Simple things mean more to me, and before I was, well, not as appreciative.

Dear Petersencm,

The joys of simplicity, you are so right, they are wonderful !!! :-)

It is indeed by going through death and coming back into this world like a newborn, thanks to our memory problems, that we learn to appreciate thing's very differently.

All of a sudden, incredibly simple thing's become beautiful and wonderful! We just appreciate simple emotions, laughter, joy, sensitivity, care, love, and we appreciate the planet we are living on in a very different manner. It is thank's to this Planet that we live, and one just has to stroll on the beach, or walk through the forest, or sit in one's garden, or look out of the window, to hear the sounds of all the simple thing's going on around us, and watch all the really simple thing's happening around us.

It is just Magic!!!
