HSE - Is this really happening?

Hello: I am turning to everyone for support, information and help because I am not finding any on the www. My mother-in-law was diagnosed w/ HSE on October 7th, she was found outside wandering trying to get into a neighbors house. She is 65 years old, and has completed her antivirals and we had to place her in a rehab facility for therapy. She is physically getting stronger everyday, unfortunately her mental status is not... Can anyone tell me their experiences with this, is she going to wake-up one day in the future and know who we are and know who she is?

Hello Kristeena
You may wish to start out by reviewing the HELP section at our website http://www.encephalitisglobal.org/id18.html.

You can also view stories from other encephalitis survivors at the Daniel's Cases website http://www.1halloween.net/encephalitis/ .

No one can predict your mother-in-law's recovery. As the inflammation in her brain subsides, neighbouring areas of her brain will struggle to re-learn the knowledge and abilities which have been lost.

Feel free to ask questions any time. We're here to help each other.
