Did urinary tract infection delay recovery?

0 Recommendations

My wife got the infection while in ICU and since the infection can cause delirium I was wondering if anyone has experience with it delaying someone getting better. My wife did start getting a bit better at the end of her UTI treatment so maybe there is a correlation, though doctor says not likely since wife is not old- she's 37.

Hello Anarchy...
I've not heard of any connection between a urinary tract infection and recovery delay. You may wish to type the word "urinary" in the Find It box at the top right of this screen, to see where it's been discussed previously.

Having had many infections from immune deficiency while recovering from meningitis, I can tell you that having an infection MOST DEFINITELY affects brain and nervous system function.

I had some dental work done a couple of weeks ago. I've been running a fever and my left cheek was bright red and swollen. It almost feels like I have meningitis all over again. I've been limping on my left leg, which was partially paralyzed from the meningitis but recovered shortly after. My balance is shot. My emotions, the headaches and the irritability are hell. My short-term memory has completely deserted me again. This happens every time I get an infection, my nervous system just doesn't work as well until I recover. When the body has to divert resources to fighting an infection, there just isn't as much left for other stuff.

My Mother has had several UTI since having HSE. When she was closer to the beginning of HSE the UTIs affected her more. Since becoming post HSE, they don't affect her neurological as much. You need to remember that a high fever can affect a person cognitive ability. You didn't say how long it was between the time of the original infection and the UTI. Hope she is doing better now.
