I just want to tell you all that my new neurologist (I've been his patient for just a little over a year) is so interested in the residuals of encephalitis and how to treat a patient who 'had' it, not one who currently 'has' it. I showed him my letter to the editor in Neurology Now and he said, "Way to go!" and gave me a big hug.
Then he started asking me if I knew about the medicine the medical community is using for Alzheimer's patients to help their memory. I told him I had taken it but stopped because the pills gave me the 'runs'. He said "well, I have something for you!" and gave me a one-month sample of Exelon Patch which is a newer version of the drug but instead of swallowing it, you wear a tiny patch for 24 hours and then put on a new one. He's started me at a small dose but if it starts working, he will increase it. I am so excited.
He is really interested in helping me. He gave me advice on how to find a neuro/psych through my insurance company and when I come up with names, let him know who so he can recommend someone.
So, if any of you are within commuting distance, I would suggest that you go see him. Wouldn't it be great if one neuro had 10 patients with the same illness? Just a thought.
