Young adults/High School participation

Why do some many young adults and high school aged kids stop participating with the social activities and other planned events with our local ds group?

Some of the parents of older kids and young adults are just weary of hearing about the younger kid stuff. Sometimes they seem just plain tired (by all the things that the previous response mentioned) and other times they seem very dissatisfied with the lack of attention paid to issues that mean the most to THEM. Sometimes they don't seem to want to reach back and lend a hand to those that have come after them.

This is a question that has continued to puzzel me.

1. High school activities (if you are involved in the band, any clubs, etc) that's a lot of activities--then maybe add in Special Olympics or other weekend activities and it's tough.

2. Parents are over having to drive their "kids" around and most of these teens don't drive. It's important to either offer some form of transportation (that doesn't require parents) or to help facilitate carpools.

3. These families often are facing bigger issues post-school and believe it or not, the adult system is even harder to navigate and deal with then the school system. It's hard to do things jointly with new parents or school-age parents who are overwhelmed with those issues.
