As I was leaving work yesterday, an older man who works in the same building stopped me on the way to the gym. He's 86 years old, he used to be an amazing athlete; he is a very nice man.
He asked if I was going for a run, I said yes. He just smiled for a moment. Then he asked me to do him a favor. I said sure.
He said not to take any moment of that run for granted. He said the day would come when I physically won't be able to do it anymore, and when that day comes it will be hard and I'll miss it more than I thought possible.
He went on to say that when you're thinking that you can't handle one more step, take a deep breath, put your head down and keep going, because you CAN. And when you're done, thank your lucky stars that you are able to run (or do any exercise) because it really is a beautiful gift.
It's amazing how easy it is to take something so simple for granted. I found his words and encouragement touching, so I wanted to share.
Have a wonderful day! --Lea
