xenical vs. alli

0 Recommendations

I just got a prescription for xenical and took it to the pharmacy to fill. They were trying to push Alli on me. I just really want something that will definately work and not a substitute. They told me that it was Identical! That I should buy Alli because of the price but just double up the dosage. Can someone tell me anything about these and which one worked for them and how long it takes to see results on either? Thanks

my husband uses alli and he is doing really good with it. you just can't be eating too much fat or you get diarhea. they call it the treatment effect. but he has lost 20 pounds since the 3rd week of January. you also need to take a multivitamin with it. they also have a great website with a full plan of meals and recipes and diet tips. you need to get the starter pack to be on the website. but he is doing great on it and he likes it and it keeps him in line with his eating. if you know you're going to have a fatty meal, don't take the pill, it will be montezumas revenge. i take relacore, but that helps more for nerves than eating. but it helps me because i am a nervous eater, and i have lost 15 pounds since starting these. they are so much cheaper than alli. hope this helps, good luck

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I am just at my last and I need something that is going to help me and work. I know it is cheaper, but I wanted to make sure that it was the same identical product. That is what the pharmacist told me. I am glad that you both have had success. I pray that I do. I have to lose 70lbs. Thanks again!

no problem good luck with everything. whatever you decide i hope it works out for you.

Hello Naw, I just went to my primary care physician and asked him the same question and he said exactly what sz16agn said. I am concidering taking Alli but I am still undecided, I am affraid of the diarrhea. I have been doing the Weight Watchers on my own for a week now (since I know how it works because I've done it before). So far I've lost about close to 4 lbs in a week but I would like to take something to boost that up a little. My goal is to lose 50 to 60 lbs, although I really need to lose about 90, but I want to be realistic. I wish you good luck on whatever you decide. You can drop me a note if you need to talk about this diet issue, God know I need all the support I can get.

PS. Good luck to you too sz16agn, and your husband.

all i can say..xenical been there done that 8 years ago..and you better have your adult diapers on..!

Hi Panchita71,
Thanks for your reply. I am a struggling woman and have been for years. I just can't seem to do it. I lost years ago with metabolife (3months) from size 22 to 12/14 and now I am back up to 18 due to a pregnancy plus just whatever. I am trying to eat better. I need a weekly menu to go by, I just can't do it myself and get it right. Do you have anything? I am just so desperate at this time. I have to lose 70lbs. or 80 really.

Wow! It must be true. But if I can control that part, did it work for you? I will do whatever as long as it works for me. I get so tired of things that don't work. :)

I use alli, have been for about 3 weeks now and have lost 7 lbs. Xenical and alli are both the same I have taken pharmacology lol so I know the generic vs brand relations...so you have these chemists that created a drug called it orlistat. Somewhere down the line a company purchased the drug and called it xenical..many yrs later you have another company who purchases the same drug and calls it alli. Now you have the same drug with 3 different names. Xenical and alli as the brand name and orlistat as the generic name. so when you hear the term generic brand at the drug store don't be worried by it you are getting the same exact thing as the brand name.

LOL so the pharmacist was right xenical and alli are twins hehe :) and with alli being over the counter automatically makes it cheaper... it was good of your pharmacist to recommend alli...he is looking out for your wallet lol

although i do not know the dosage on the xenical with it being prescription and the pharm told you to double up it is probably a higher dose than alli :) forgot to add that

Hi! Thanks so much. That has cleared everything. The pharmacy brand is twice the dosage as Alli. I would only take one pill. But it is $123.00 for 30 pills for 30 days. So, I now know what to do. Thanks for all of your advise! I really appreciate it so much. :)

WOW! I was going to get on tonight and ask what pills would be best for help. i have read some good replies.and i have been wanting to try alli. i am already taking the relacore and i do like it. i have noticed i have been a little more relaxed. this site is pretty informative,in so many ways.
thank you,mbermea

I just joined last weekend and I have gotten so many great replies as to advise and opinions. I am on my way to the 24 hour walgreens to get some alli to try it. I tried relacore some years ago and stopped. But I did see some result. My friend used it and lost a lot. She was definately consistant and exercising as well. I hope that this works for me because I am so tired of failing. :)

Naw.....if you need any help or anything at all with alli or you have any q's just let me know we can do it together :)

None of these pills will work on behaviour, which is at the root of the problem... They may speed up some results but what then? And are they worth the negative side affects? Slow but steady wins the race and the practice you get in changing your habits will keep the weight off.
You can do it on your own -the permanent reward if worth the difficulty of a lifelong reward.
Good luck!

Hi the Alli is really good I am disabled and I can't work out becouse I have a dislocated joint. I spoke to my family doctor also and he told me to use the alli so I am on it now and it really works. You just have to watch what you eat or you will get the treatment affect. It really forces you to learn how to eat right. I get weak a lot and will eat something high in fat and take my word for it I get the treatment affect. Plus you are not spending crazy money now it does cost around $49. but it is worth it. You get a months supply.

Nacho....I agree the pills do not work on behavior, and I agree that we could do it on our own. Why struggle when there is help out there? Everyone is different not everyone has the same mindset as you. its great that you want to do this on your own with out any kind of supplement, pill or anything just good nutrition and exercise.

I have been thinking about trying Alli as a way of helping me with my menu planning and control. I don't have alot of weight to take off (approx 15-20 lbs) but I have been spinning my wheels for years and still don't have the results I desire. My exercise routine is pretty well rounded and consistent but my meal planning really needs work. I enjoyed reading all the replies regarding this subject. Thanks.

well, i went out and bought alli. i took my first pills today. so far no treatment effects, but also i was good on cutting out the fat (today). i am planning on sticking this out for the whole bottle if it works i will stick with it. i do know that i will be able to do this on my own but i also KNOW i need all the help i can get..
I AM ON MY WAY TO A HEALTHIER ME!!YAHOOOOO!!
With or without Alli.miya

Thanks for all the information. I've been contemplating Alli for a while now but was afraid of the side effects. All in all, it sounds like you basically have to be really careful about the fat content in your diet, which is the majority of the problem anyway. Exercise being the other part. It's discouraing when you do all the right things and hardly take off weight. So a little push in the right direction can't hurt. I have to agree that one will learn real fast to stay away from trouble foods (LOL). Good luck to all of you trying it, and perhaps we can keep in touch to compare "notes". ~V~

I have taken both. I lost 30 pounds with Xenical. Alli is a lower dosage of the same drug. You have to take twice as many pills. If you don't east correctly, you will get diarrhea. Any fatty foods will bring this result. Some people cannot tolerate this side affect. I did for several months and lost the 30 pounds.
