Let me begin with this I would of never thought I could lose weight not as much as I have! I started last Dec 28 2008! I did not want to start on January 1st cause I was afraid that I would fall into the new years resolution trap, so I began my journey a couple days earlier. I went to the place where I work, they sell scales there got on, not one but 3 different scales all saying I weigh 242, one even said 248! That was enough wake up call that I have ever had. It was my ah haa moment. I thought I was going to pass out, I was like what the hell happened? Why did I let my self to become this big? I could blame alot of things and people, but the only person I had to blame was me. I am the one that put 1 big mac meal plus 10 chicken nuggets in my mouth, I am the one that chose to sit on the couch and not move. So I decided it was time, on that day in Dec, I went to work really early got me a few work out clothes and looked up different videos to work out on line, and I began. I changed everything, I chose a time where I would no longer eat that day, cut my calorie intake to 1200 a day, gave up my diet pepsi, well I allow one a day a small one, then when I could not do exercise I took myself to a local mall and did mall walking, when the weather got nice I was walking 6 miles a day. I started to lose lose 30 pounds, then 10, then inches started coming off, then more weight! I now its Nov 6 2009 and I now weigh 172! I went from a size 20 to a size 10, (some reason my body is losing inches quicker then the weight). I have more energy and I manage to keep my walking going. I find ways to walk now! I have till Dec 28 2009 to lose 30 pounds, so I can say I lost 100 pounds. Do not know if I will make it, but I sure am going to try. Along the way of my weight loss journey, I have found its important to eat breakfast, doesnt matter what it is, just as long as its in a healthy way and its in portions. I manage to keep my time of where I dont eat anything and that is at 6pm per day. I still eat junk food every now and then come on Im human, I love my junk food, but I learned to eat in moderation and a portion of it. I learned that when I go to a buffet dinner to just take a small spoon and put what you want to eat on the plate just for the taste. I managed to keep moving. I started just walking around the block, first it was one trip then it got to 5 trips then I went to the mall and walk that 3 times which is a mile long. I take weights with me to keep my arms toned! So if anyone reads this and says oh just another person who says if I can do it, so can you. Im not going to be that person, only you can decide when your time is right to lose the weight, you have to want the change, and its a change! I just want to be an inspiration and support to anyone who is out there and needs a motivation. I have pictures on facebook, if you want to see them I will share them with you!

Wow. That's just one word that pretty much sums up my comment. :) Everything that you just explained has opened up new ideas for me to get started! You have no idea how much of your experience was opened new doors!

What it sounds like so far, you WILL get to your goal, but you will only get to your goal if you never give up!

Keep going girl! Keep on posting too!
Good Luck and Have fun doing it!!!

I forgot the biggest part of all this, I hardly spent a dime. It doesnt cost nothing to go to a park and walk, it doesnt cost nothing except your normal grocery shopping to chose what to eat. At the park in the beginning cause I could not do sit ups, I go on the swings and swing, cause everytime you go up you have to put your legs up, and you kind of lay back which stretches your stomach. If you lay down on the floor and have your legs on the couch but your back on the floor, with hand weights, bring the weights over your head and lift to the core of your body. Do that till you cant do it no more. Then take your feet place at the edge of the couch and try to lift your stomach off the floor, it like a sit up but your butt and stomach come off the ground leaving your shoulders and head on the floor. Also, going to the mall, only costs a little bit of gas. If you go before the stores open, you can get your walking done early. It only takes 15 minutes for you to start burning calories...so everytime you go to the mall increase your steps. I also go to the benches at the mall and do leg lifts. I do it everytime I come to that point of the mall where I started walking. I am broke, I cant afford a gym, and I cant afford to buy a treadmill, so I found ways to lose weight with out the cost! As far as shopping for new clothes I go to the salvation army cause I dont know what size 140 will take me, thats where I want to end...so I dont want to buy a whole new wardrope till then!

I think what your doing is awesome.. keep it going :0)

Hi Patty - We could be twins. I actually have the same story. I started on 1/1/09 - not because it was a resolution - it just happened to be a day off from work for me and I was reading an email from Discovery Health and had time to check out their site. Then I found out about inspire - and the rest is a similar story to yours. I never planned to lose weight - nor as much as I have - I didn't think I could ever do it again - but 11 mos later and I have lost 70 lbs, have reached my goal range - and went from a size 18 to 4. (me too - inches have come off a lot faster. I still weigh 135 lbs) I am very toned from working with weights and always go power walking with 5 lb weights. I also run now.
It is really all about changing how you eat, thinking about food and incorporating exercise into your life.
This has been not only an amazing physical transformation for me but a mental one as well.
Congratulations to you! There are so many wonderful success stories up here. And don't worry about reaching the 100 by Dec - because you will get there soon enough. Just keep on doing what you're doing.
Ei

Thanks Ei, Im not worried...I made a promise to myself if I dont make my 100, with in a year not to be upset with myself cause eventually that last 30 will come off. Congrats on your success as well!!!

Patty Grace -

Thank You for your most inspiring post - Something I realized while reading your and Ei your also - I have been consumed with not overwhelming my self about how much I would like to loose and trying to be happy about the few pounds here and there that I ended up thinking I would take years to get to where I need to get - I thought saying I want to loose 80 or 100 pounds in a year was being unreasonable and that has taken away my excitment for loosing lots of weight and getting fit - I don't want to diet but make life changing habbits with healthier eating - I'm hoping that will give me the weight reduction I need - I have always known exercising and having activity needed to be part of life - I can see some of my many reasons and or excuses have sabataged me along the way - I used to be very active with working andsuch I never had to do special workouts and when I wasn't looking I slowed down my working activity and have become very sedimentary -

It seems every where you look any one saying how much they have lost (advertizing etc.) and even ourselves don't say how long or short of a time it has taken then - My life has changed so much over just the past 10 years and I haven't taken that into consideration for my own wellbeing - there is such a big difference from being a Heavy equipment operater to a stay at home caretaker of my ailling husband and I just hadn't looked at it that way - I don't know if any of this has made any sense to anyone but my self this has just been a way for me to think aloud and hopefully make an impression on myself -

thank you again for this oppertunity to look inside myself for some more answers - Ruth

Wow... Great job... I have been at this a little longer. I started out right about where you were. My goal is also 140 lbs. I have been struggling this past couple of months with a small gain, then a little loss. almost at a stopping point. I know My bigest issue is not getting active enough. You are right you must change things to make a change. Keep up with your good work.... We will get there I know we can. I am going to work on improving my exercise.

Thank you for your story:)

I think its all about the ah haa moment . I am their, I too had my ah haa moment and started Oct 2009 I lost 20lbs the first month and only wiegh in on Sunday. I stay on my plan all week and Sunday I see how I do on my own eating for the day . I have given myself 1year to see how much I can take off, hopefully it will be at least 100lbs. Slow and steady. I just started to incorporate exercise this month I have more energy since loosing the 20lbs, again slow and steady. Thank you for sharing your journey with us all it keeps us all going to the happy healthy place we want to be

WAY TO GO!!! Your photo looks awesome!!! GOOD JOB!
