Dentist appt.....Are you kidding me??!!!!!!

Ok.....went to my new dentist yesterday. After sitting there for 45 min and not being called, I approached the front desk and ask how much longer it was going to be? She told me that the phone repair guy was in the room that I am going in and they were finishing up the repair. During that 45 min wait, I sat there and filled out 3 pages of patient information. Here is where the problem began.............

Someone please explain to me why we are ordered to fill out all this information if the dentist is NOT going to look at it.... You would think that in all the years of schooling they go through that at least one class would teach that it is important to review the patients history BEFORE starting treatment...... They ask you all the important questions, like current medications, current diagnosis, medical conditions, allergies ect ect ect........ We patiently fill out all their forms expecting that when the doctor/dentist comes into our room and meets us for the first time they have some clue who we are and what is wrong with us, right??? WRONG!

I sat in the chair, had two xrays done of my lower right side jaw by the assistant. A few min later the dentist comes in and tells me open my mouth and then starts pulling on my lips. Then tells me......relax your lips.....still with sharp pointy tool in my mouth I try to mumble to her..... She doesn't remove said pointy tool... then again in a firmer and louder voice....relax your lips and let me in your mouth..... I roll my eyes.....try to mumble once again, to no avail....She then removes said sharp pointy tool from my mouth and looks at me like she is my mom (now she is young enough to be my kid, and says more firmly....you have to loosen your lip muscles to let me see inside your mouth.... Well this was my change finally to not mumble and actually speak.... I look at her and said......" as per the 3 pages of medical history forms your office insist I fill out.. I HAVE SCLERODERMA!!! But I guess after years of schooling you forgot the part about reviewing the patients history BEFORE approaching me with your sharp pointy tool!!" She replied back "ohhhh, I am sorry, that would explain why your mouth is so stiff" OMG ya think????

And as if that was not bad enough....You would think that she would at that point instead of grabbing her sharp pointy tool and attempting to look in my mouth she would have at the very least glanced at the 3 pages of medical history or asked me if there was any other important medical information she needed to know? But nope....she didn't! After about 5 min of poking around at my teeth she then tells me if I breathe through my nose my mouth would not dry out so bad while she was doing the exam. Are you freakin kidding me??????!!!!!!!! Once again I try to mumble and she actually removed the sharp pointy tool at my first attempt to speak. I had to explain to her that I ALSO have Srojens disease. And told her if she would have looked at the, obviously pointless, 3 pages of medical questions she would have known that already. Apparently she did not like my reply and said that I had alot of dental work that needed to be done and that I would have to schedule another appt to have the work done!!!!

Now that I am sitting here typing this at 2:30 in morning I remember that I had told the assistant at the beginning of the appt that I had SD and Srojens disease!! Would think she would have mentioned it to the dentist huh?

Amazing how some people spending years and years and tons of money to go to college and come out just as blind as they were before they started!

OK, I guess I am done venting for now. Sorry.......I just woke in such pain and couldn't go back to sleep and laid there and thought about my experience at the dentist and become more upset over it than I was at the appt......

Hope everyone has a wonderful and pain-free night.

Hugsssss
Terri
