Mouth Ulcers?

0 Recommendations

My 12 yo son who has been diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder has been suffering from relentless mouth ulcers (canker sores). They are very painful, long lasting and often bleed profusely. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a correlation between this and the ctd? I would love to hear your thoughts and any treatment advice you have. Thank you.

Pain Prednisone Scleroderma Brushing Morphea Oral lichen planus

I posted something about this a while back, I will look for it. I have oral lichen planus but think it might actually be lichen sclerosis -- I have had sore, red, bleeding gums for YEARS and no one can offer me any help. Once and a while if it gets too bad I will go on antibiotics for about 10 days and then steroids for about 10 days. My dentist has had a special mouth rinse mixed for me that helps the pain. (Again, I will try to find all I wrote about it). I use only sensodyne toothpaste and also sensodyne toothbrushs which are very very soft but not available in stores -- I have to order a dozen at a time from some company on the internet. With the continual bleeding and pain, it is hard to brush and my teeth are in bad shape, filling teeth or doing dental work is difficult because the bleeding does not stop while they are trying to fill teeth. I am so sorry your son has this evil disease, it is hard enough to deal with it as an adult but I can't imagine my child having it. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was diagnoised with Oral lichen planus before any signs of scleroderma showed up. My gums are always red, swollen, tender and bleeding. Brushing my teeth is painful and causes more bleeding. My dentist does have me on a mouthwash he has the pharmacist mixed that has lidocane, benedryl and prednisone. I have also tried one they mixed that had antibiotics instead of the prednisone but it didn't help as much. Not that this is any great cure.

I do have localized scleroderma which I wonder if lichen planus and scleroderma/morphea are the same thing? I have a dentist appointment this morning UGH!

Found the discussion about this in the Scleroderma support group titled Morphea linear ... the writer was also talking about the problem with a child.

Ann,
Thank you so much. It is heartbreaking to watch my son go through all of this. His ulcers are primarily on his cheeks and lips. I wonder if it is oral lichen planus.. Doctors don't seem to want to deal with it. He has had to go on antibiotics for them before because they have gotten infected.
