I'm new here and just thought I would ask if anyone else has been diagnosed with VPI and Apraxia and what the outcome was? My 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with Apraxia when she was 2 and has had speech therapy for the past 4 years. She continues to have therapy in school. Along the way she was also diagnosed with VPI (velopharyngeal incompetency). She sounds "nasal" when she speaks. She has had therapy for that as well, but she will have to have surgery. In the mean time her doctor wants to have her checked for neurofibromatosis. Based on the speech findings and a single cafe au lait. Anyway, my question is, has anyone had these two speech problems without having neurofibromatosis? Has anyone had the VPI surgery and was it successful? I'm hoping to hear from someone with some insight.
