Hi - I'm writing a story for the Boston Herald about clinical studies and participating in them safely. I was wondering if someone who's been involved as a healthy subject in a longer-term study (such as a sleep study) would be willing to chat with me briefly about their experience? I don't mean to be intrusive, only want to learn more, thanks. I'm at cthornell@bostonherald.com.

Hi. My name is Patricia Park and I just joined this website. I work with the physician Dr. Stephen DeFelice, pictured above at the Revlon Walk/Run for Women's Cancers in NYC with Dr. Michael Maroules and Lois Myers, cofounder of the Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation. Dr. DeFelice is the founder of The Foundation for Innovation in Medicine (www.fimdefelice.org) and has been a passionate crusader trying to accelerate medical discovery for over 4 decades. We are currently recruiting patients for a clinical trial in advanced recurrent ovarian cancer. (www.carnitine-ovariancancerpromise.com is a website with information about the study). When I saw you were writing an article about clinical studies, I thought it would be very interesting for you to speak to Dr. DeFelice. Over the years he has written books about drug discovery, served as medical director of Pfizer and Chief of Clinical Pharmacology at Walter Reed Army Institute during the Vietnam War. He has worked closely with both Senator Frist and Congressman Pallone on different initiatives to accelerate medical discovery. One point that may interest you, in addition to coining the term nutraceutical, he coined the term Doctornaut and proposed the Doctornauat Act to Senator Frist, where healthy or ill physicians could volunteer for clinical research at an accelerated pace. The idea for the word came from a comparison to astronauts, who take risks for the benefit of others. My cell phone is 973-271-8076 if you would like to call me and I would arrange a call with Dr. DeFelice. I think it could be an interesting addition to your article. I hope to hear from you. Best Regards, Patricia
