Walk or Smoke

Hi all. I am new here and wanted to introduce myself as well as give you a little info about me and my medical problem.
3 years ago I was told I had P.A.D.. I had to have 4 angioplasty's and 5 stints placed in my exteranl Iliac's with in 5 months. In all I now have something like 12 stints, and 2 patches have been done on my artory's, one petala, and one femeral. I have lost count of the number of times I have had this done.
This last time I was in the hospital I had to have 2 procedures in 2 days and spent 4 days in ICU. I am just VERY lucky to have one of the best Vasculas specialists in this area as my doctor or I may have lost my right foot or leg this last time.
I have smoked since I was 15 years old. Stopped for a year then took it up again last year. My doctor gave ne a choice. Smoke or lose my legs. There is no other option. So you can bet I have stopped smoking. It has only been 2 weeks, and it is the hardest thing I have had to do, but I refuse to buy another pack. I want to walk thank you very much!
I am going to start back walking every day as soon as I can get the stitches that are in my groin area removed, hopefuly next week.
Right now it is all I can do to walk to the road to get the mail, about 60 steps each way.
I am a fighter, and will not let this get me down or run my life! Heck I am going on a 12 day cruise to the Greek Isles right after Thanksgiving! Have to get better for that!

Nice to meet you, China.
I want to wish you the best on your recovery. I still have some swelling and discomfort in the one groin area. I imagine that will subside soon. My follow up visit is in Nov 16th.
You are correct we have no choice about smoking. It is poison. I also avoid any vaso-constrictors such as sinus medicine and epinephine with local anesthetics.

I am grateful the endovascular surgeons are able to place these stents ; they are a life saver.
