Treatment for Spastic Diplegia

0 Recommendations

Hi, I am a 25 yr old , diagnosed with Mild CP during my Birth. As a result I have become spastic(spastic dipelegia), affecting my lower limbs,(more my right limb). Hence I walk on my toes, ever since I started to walk. All the other motor functions are quite normal, I have undergone 5 surgeries on my limbs since by birth to correct the gait. Unfortunately the old gait has recurred each time after the surgery and I still walk on my toes. PhysioTherapy too was done but it was more sporadic you can say..Partly due to my own negligence :-( ....but the pain was intolerable...

I recently heard many good things about stem cell therapy...and would like to know more about it(treatment, cure, benefits etc) ...in treating spasticity.

Also any other useful information too with regards to treating spasticity and CP would be great..

Looking forward to hearing from you...Thanks a lot! ..

Hi,
Its so nice to hear from an adult with the same Spastic CP as my 3 year old daughter. She walks on her toes and uses a kaye walker as she cannot walk by herself.
I was just wondering, if you dont mind sharing other info about yourself. What age did you walk by yourself? Does it hurt alot to walk on your toes. As this is the way my daughter walks when not wearing her Splints.

I hope someday she willl walk as now she only uses her walker and is restricted.

Thanks so much.

Have you looked into feldenkrais method?

Mlissa, I'm hearing about feldenkrais for the first time..need to find more info about it...Other than that, I am hearing lot of nice things about stem cell therapy nowadays..and wanted to know whether it might help in treating spasticity and CP...

I started to walk at the age of 2, if i remeber correctly...long time ago... :-). I have got so used to walking on the toes, that it hurts me more if I try to walk straight..

Hi,
Thanks so much for your info.
Its nice to have someone who knows what its like, whereas my daughter right now doesnt realise she cannot walk like all the other. She is very happy. Which makes me happy.

If you type in Anet Baniel method into google. You will find her site and amazing video's too.
We are going to bring our daughter for her 1st feldenkrais session soon.
ALl the best

Have you ever tried AFO's? They might help your feet out.

whats an AFO?????...thats new to me...

AFO = Ankle Foot Orthotic

You can see one on my right leg.

Hi,
Yes my daughter wears her AFO's when she is using her walker, they help her stand straighter. She needs them alot. They are a great help.
