Update...on my PVC's

0 Recommendations

Hello all,

I had to get on here today to tell you this. Quick overview first:
6-7 months ago I started having terrible chest pains with multiple PVC's. Was in the ER several times. They insisted that there was nothing wrong and it's all "normal". After extreme testing (ecg's, stress echo, blood tests, heart cath) it all came back with the same result, "normal". Well, I'm here to tell you, it sure doesn't feel normal when you can't get your heart back on rhythm.
Fast forward to now:
I went to the Dr due to terrible migraines. I had one that lasted 3 days. I get in the room and this time it was a good visit. I told him that my jaw was still hurting and asked if he would check my ears. He did, and they were clear. He then procedes to do the normal routine checking. He found that I have TMJ. My dang jaw is popping, he told me to get a mouth piece to sleep with. He perscribed me a daily dose of Verapimil (for the migraines). OMG...since I've been taking that my headaches are gone and so are the PVC's. I feel wonderful...sleepy all the time, but wonderful. My kiddos are back on baseball schedule...busy everynight. Now, I don't know if the meds made me feel better or being back at the ball field made me better. But I really hope it's the meds because baseball only lasts 8 weeks.
Finally, I am almost all the way back to "ME". It's crazy though because I have more then one problem and I was thinking that all of these problems was one concern. But turns out that my jaw hurts because of TMJ, my chest hurt because of PVC's, my back hurt because I sit at a desk all day long and I have to be busy for all of this to not bother me.

Thanks to all for listening

I am so happy that so far it seems to be working for you. I knew they used Beta blockers for migraines, but didn't realize they used the ACE Inhibitor class for that also. Wow, that is great.

One thing though--what if an underlying electrical issue with the heart is what was causing the PVCs, and that's why you're rid of the PVCs now--because of the Verapamil? That doesn't address the underlying cause of the PVCs, possibly.

I have the Long QT-2 gene, and probably a complete case of LQTS (my time was 047), and am on 150mg. /day of Toprol XL. My daughter died in her sleep at the age of 22, and apparently it was from the LQTS, as her autopsy and toxicolgy were totally negative. Going back over her complete cardiac work-up, the Holter monitor read as negative in about 8th grade, was read as abnormal, by an expert after her untimely and tragic death.

Emotions can be one of the biggest triggers of irregular heart beats and "events" with the LQT-2 gene. They are also looking into a possible connection between the channelopathy of the LQT-2 gene and "seizures".

I am not saying you have LQTS, as it indeed is not that common, but electrical problems are something to keep in the back of your mind.

My point connecting it to you is they still may not have addressed the true cause of your PVCs. I know for me, stress & emotion definitely trigger more PVCs and arrhythmias.

Again, I'm so happy for you that everything is so much better.

Does anyone know of any connection between heart issues & migraines?

Yes Stress can make them worse.

Verapamil is not an ACEI it is a Ca Channel blocker. It is known to treat chest pain, hypertension, PSVT, and A-fib. Investigational it is used for migraines and bipolar disorder (the manic phase).

I am so sorry. I quickly looked it up the other night in my new 2009 Nursing Drug Handbook, and looked at the wrong page, not even noticing that verapamil wasn't listed there. Thanks for correcting that. I hope no one else was mislead by that entry.

My husband is having lots of swelling in his lower legs, ankles, etc. and he's on lisinopril, and was on amlodipine. He's on both of these for newly diagnosed high blood pressure, as well as Toprol XL 100.

After I looked up what I thought was the section on verapamil, I was wondering why he didn't think that the lisinopril was the culprit--as it's the first side effect listed. Instead he put him on 12.5 of HCZ, and stopped the amlodipine. The swelling isn't much better, and no telling about his BP--he hasn't wanted me to check it so far (go figure--that's a guy thing I think).

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I appreciate it.

I hate the way this drug book is set up. The main section on each drug needs to be listed in bold, and it's not. It just has multiple pages where the drug is mentioned listed, so you have to go to multiple pages to find what you are looking for.

I am glad that your pvc's are gone, I wish mine were. I feel like everyday I am just getting worse and worse. I have never been this way. My doctor wants to put me on Toprol but I am nervous to take it. I am at my whits end. I used to never get them this bad a couple of months ago but it seems like they are getting worse. I hope mine get cured soon. Good luck to everybody!!
