10 years ago I was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. After trying many meds I decided to go for an ablation for my accessory pathway. At that time I required 3 of them but they solved my WPW. It appears that in one of the procedures the doctor ablated some fibers of the vagus nerve (which decreases heart rate) and since then I've been suffering from Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia. I already had 2 Sinus Node Modifications but the doctors haven't been able to decrease my rate because of the proximity of my phrenic nerve. They say that if they burn there I would end up with paralysis of the diaphragm. On last April, I had a pacemaker implanted in anticipation of a Total Sinus Node Ablation, but it has been impossible to do it. I've seen 11 specialists already and been treated in different states. I'm from Puerto Rico and I've been traveling to the United States looking for the solution to this problem. My last EP doctor suggested doing a combined procedure with a cardiothoracic surgeon. She says that maybe the best approach is to do endocardial, epicardial and surgical ablation. The surgeon told me he would open the chest between the ribs, deflate a lung and then provoke scars over my heart to decrease impulses. I'm a little bit confused because I don't know anybody with this situation and don't know if it is the best choice. Have anyone heard about this? Do you know anyone who had this surgery? Any help would be really appreciated. I'm in my first year of Med School and this is really complicating my life. Please. help.
