Stopped lisinopil started Benicar - anyone experienced with benicar

0 Recommendations

Hi! A lot has happened - was still coughing since the choking incident at the end of may; scheduled for a PFT next week. Started on the Benicar today. I am also taking Cardizem and Metoprolol. 100 mg of the Metoprolol - 2 x a day. Was taking 10 mg of lisinopril. Dr. ordered 10 mg of the Benicar. (5 mg tab). I took one 5mg tab, because I was experiencing low reads while on the lisinopril. I'm glad I did. I'm journaling my reads and my symptoms. Coughing increased; salty taste in mouth;tickle in throat. Postural hypotension - 78/40 on one read with an increase in ht rate. I've had several error symbols on my monitor, which means it is too low to read. I'm getting a lot of reads in the mid 80-83 systolic and 44-47 diastolic; ht rate 66-68. I would like to know other people's experience, whether it is sarc related or not, because my cardiologist hasn't run any tests to check to see if the heart problems are due to the sarc. She suspects that it is, but that's all. I also had several bad mornings with the afib, but she doesn't seem concerned. She does not see the need for a pacemaker or ICD - I hope I got that right, because brain fog has set in. Just finished a week of doing crafts with the children at Bible School. Next week is Music and worship arts - don't know how much help I'll be. We'll see. One day at a time. I'm trying to get things straight, because after the Community Outreach Fun Day, we are leaving for vacation for a week. Some input from my friends, would be appreciated. Oh - one good thing, I'm down 16 pounds. Was up to 203 on a 5' 7" frame. God bless you all, and thanks. Great-Gram

Great-Gram,
Sorry you are having so many problems with the meds. From experience, I can tell you that the Ace Inhibitors (Lisinopril) and the Beta Blockers such as (Sotalol, Betapace, atenolol, etc.) drastically drops you BP. I have tried drugs such as Mitadrine and Fludricortisone with my other meds to up the BP, but the changes are really intense, suddenly going from Hypotension to Hypertension. Low blood pressure has also shown to "cavitate" the heart, kind of like a pool pump with not enough water. I do have a AICD for Right Ventricular Cardiomyapothy,ARVD, and have problems with PVC's and some minor AFIB when I get hypotensive and bradycardic. The Lisinopril also caused a chronic cough that I have never been able to get rid of. I guess that is just the price. Remember all the meds have side effects. The only advise I can give is Just try to stay away from the meds that the symptons out way the purpose. Try to get a second opinion for the Afib, some can be treated with a simple outpatient Cardio-vert procedure in the hospital, and an AICD for a heart patient, in my opinion, is never a bad idea. It has certainly saved my life more than once.

Thanks! The cough seems worse, now, than on the Lisinopril, but after all the low B/P's yesterday with only half the dose prescribed, and then cutting my metropolol in half last night so my B/P wouldn't be too low during the night, today I just took 2.5 mg of the Benicar - am still coughing a lot, even on that dose, but the B/P systolics were in the 90s and low 100s - none of them went any lower. I'll see what happens during the next few days, and then I'll probably have to fess up to my cardiologist, as to what I did - maybe I'll wait until Friday when my INR gets done. Tuesday I'll see the pulmonologist, and have the PFT done. I didn't even have a problem with the postural hypotension, and only one short afib episode. Played piano in church and kept to my normal Sunday activities. I appreciate the information God bless! Great-gram
