NEW questions after cardiac arrest - lqt

0 Recommendations

Hello new friends,
On April 4th at 4:00 a.m. I went into full cardiac arrest.
My wonderful husband began CPR and saved my life.
I was rushed to the ER and then flown to a bigger hospital in Birmingham, AL. They were amazing! I remained in CCU for four days while they stabilized me. Not an easy task. VERY scary!
Fast Forward......
I am just wondering how other people continue their lives. Did you take off work? I am 45 and a 6th grade teacher, so my job is very stressful. I guess you could say that I was lucky this happened at the end of the year. I only had to work one week after I got out of ccu and then had Spring Break. I worked one more week after that, but ended up taking the last two weeks of the year off.
I am now worried about going back. What does everyone else do or think?
By the way, I am on Nadolol, which seems to exhaust me. I am still running in the high 400's to low 500's.
My meds were cut down last week due to a low pulse rate (40's) and feeling like I was blacking out.
I have many other questions, but I'll try not to drive everyone crazy. Thanks, Vicki

Oh my goodness! You passed out while driving! What happened after that?
I am so glad that after a while I can hope to be peaceful and not anxious about this. This happened n my sleep. I have always been an insomniac, but now it is almost unbearable. I am seeing a sleep specialist this week
Thank you for your words of encouragement, I need as much as I can get.

Please keep asking questions, it will help you relax some. I found out 1 1/2 years ago I have Long q/t when I passed out driving. I now have an ICD and I take a low dosage of Atenolol (too much makes my pulse too low too). I was scared but have read as much as I can and asked lots of questions...

I am at peace with my diagnosis, I will not live my life in fear. I am now looking to return to teaching in the fall and am excited for the challenge.

Just know you are not alone and there is a lot of support on this board.
