LQT question for everyone

0 Recommendations

i am 24 years old and have known i had LQTS for quite some time. i was diagnosed by ekg in 1987 when i was 2. i was put on betas and have been taking them ever since. but, a week after i had my son (last year), i became ill and my EP wanted to run an ekg since my electrolytes were probably off... and my QTc was high. he decided to implant a pacemaker (NOT an ICD). does anyone else have only a pacemaker?? i've been trying to find info on this ever since and have yet to find anything solid. my mother went into cardiac arrest 6 weeks after i was born, and she has an ICD. that history, combined with the fact that i had a near syncope episode in may (never happened before) and some odd, strong palpatations has made me a little skeptical of the dr's decision. especially since i can't seem to find anyone else whose treatment has been solely a pacemaker + meds. i mean, the whole point of LQT is the possiblity of v-tach, then v-fib, then death. and i have no protection against those things. i understand his train of thought... if the heart is never allowed to beat too slowly, then inherently the length of the QTc is shorter. i would really appreciate some info if anyone else's dr took this route and you have a pacemaker instead of an ICD.

Hi sounds like you need a second opinion, assume the pace component is to prevent too low heart rate while on betas, given family history of arrest it does seem odd not to have the ICD
