I am hoping that someone may be able to help with some information. About 3 months ago my 7 year old daughter started complaining of feeling dizzy and having pain in her heart. She describes a flippy floppy feeling or a feeling of her heart in her stomach. She also complains of feeling very weak and sometimes says it affects her breathing. The first doctor detected an arryhtmia. Her heart would suddenly speed up on the monitor and the slowly coming back down. Nothing showed up on the ecg. They also did a holter but it didn't happen at that time and nothing showed on an echo either. However on her ecg that I have it show borderline prolonged qt but is crossed out. I really don't want to take her back to the doctor because he says it is a benign arrhythmia and not to worry but last night she felt reaaly "weird" and dizzy and the next the she came out of the bedroom and said she fainted. She only remembers waking up. It does haen in the day but alot in the eveniing. Any help would be appreciated. I feel like I am both overreacting and being neglectful.

Hi. I would immediately get a second opinion from an electrophysiologist cardiologist. Myself as well as my two sons have long qt syndrome (which one of the symptoms is fainting). Myself as well as my one son had EKG's and stress tests and nothing showed up, they were normal. It wasn't confirmed that we had it until we did genetic testing.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am curious on how you go about seeing the cardiologist. Do I need a referall from her doctor? Also, I am curious what the symptoms of long qt are if you don't mind.

I am not a doctor so I dont want to give you wrong information, a good resource to learn about long qt syndrome as well as other syndromes that affect the heart is SADS.org. There is a lot of great information on that website. There are not a lot of symptoms of Long QT but fainting is definately one of them. Not to scare you but, also if there is any history of unexplained deaths in your family. As far as making an appointment, it would probably depend on your insurance company whether or not you need a referral. You have to call them. Hi. I also would suggest a second opinion from a pediatric cardiologist. The symptoms your daughter is explaining sound very familiar. I had a hard time explaining my symptoms as an adult because it is overall just a strange feeling. But I wouldn't dismiss them at all. I also find the mayoclinic.com's explanation of long qt syndrome to be very easy to understand and a good place to start for an overall understanding. Best of luck to you and your little girl.
