ICD coiled wires coming uncoiled

0 Recommendations

My husband's ICD is two months old. A few days ago we noticed a bump above the ICD. Yesterday it is bigger and feels like a bundle of something. No swelling. No red color or anything. No pain. I'm wondering if the extra wires they coil up behind it have come unwound. Sure, I'll call the doc Monday but has this happened to anyone before? Is this a common occurrence?

Yes. Cardiologist says what is sticking up are the plastic "wings" on the tube that holds the wires. They should have been clipped off after stitched to muscle. Anyone getting a new ICD might ask about this with the doctor who will do the implant.

Let's just hope it doesn't rub and create a wound. Great. This could have been prevented.

Any update from that? It sounds like the swelling yes, but it sounds like it could settle wrong in his chest wall (before scar tissue builds up) ~ Persoanlly, I'd take him in again.

Just an update. Cardiologist says not to worry. Is probably just swelling going down (after 2 months?!) We'll get it checked out next week.

Of course, I scared myself silly trying to find such problems on the internet. You don't want to know the possibilities. I keep telling myself, risk vs benefit...
