Beta Blockers

0 Recommendations

Hi All,

Last tuesday I was diagnosed with LQTS. I'm not sure which number I have at this stage but was curious. As the specialist gave me a prescription for Beta Blockers Metoprolol (I think its called) I have not yet picked my prescription up but was just wondering if any one has taken this drug and wanted to know of any side effects (good and/or bad)

Thank you

Hi, I've been on toprolxl (the sustained release formula of the same chemical) for quite a while. Where as you need the medication, it does have some side effects. I've had several of them, including fatigue, weight gain (40 pounds since I started taking it) and some digestive upset. Make sure you talk to your dr about any side effects that you have, and most of all good luck to you. I wish you well :)

I'm on Toprol XL also for CPVT (its like LQT but a little more lethal). I don't really have any side effect now but an occasional headache (and I am on a pretty hefty dose) but at the beginning I did have dizziness. I guess it all depends on the person. It usually does take your body awhile to get use to it. I hope you don't have any issues!

if any of you had a holter monitor or loop event monitor .did your doctor discontinue your beta locker before the test . i don't know how they can get an accurate result if you remain on abeta blocker for the entire test , it seems pointless to do the test on a beta blocker. and a waste of time . anyone???Thanks in advance.

Dear Baloney.....I am on 200mg of Corgard, and they did not discontinue it before I was on the monitors because in my case, they wanted to see how well the medication was working. I did have to stop the meds before an ablation and stress test though.

to baloney, I am on 80 mg of Nadolol; I have had plenty of monitors of all types since I was started on beta blockers (it started with 40mg and recently it moved up to 80mg) and it wasn't discontinued, they did want to see if anything abnormal happened while on the med; I haven't had any monitors with the 80mg dosage

My daughters are on Beta Blockers ATENELOL. The 15yo has 125mg am and 75mg pm 13yo has 75mg am and 75mg pm, both get a bit tired and circulation is down a bit, they get cold hands and feet in the winter. The ICD's pace about 1% of the time due to low heart rate while sleeping

I have taken metoprolol for years and it works great. The only down side for me is, when the dose went higher my blood pressure went lower. It took a little fine tuning to find the right dose, but I find it works.

I can take metoprolol xl only when I have a long-lasting episode of AFib. The rest of the time, if I try taking it on a regular basis, even on the lowest dose, I end up with bradycardia and my asthma flares up. I don't do well with any of the beta blockers.

Been on atenelol since my SCA 5 1/2 years ago. 50mg am and pm. At first I felt really tired all the time, had some dizziness. But now that I'm used to it, I get the exhaustion just every once in a while, and also the dizziness on occasion. Mostly if I get up to fast, or I'll get dizzy if I've not slept well. These are the only side effects I've had.

I started on 50 mg to begin with, but kept having episodes so it was increased to 100 mg. So far, working good for me.

Wow! Thank you all for a the replies - it was really good to know everyones thoughts on this matter :)
I have been taking Metoprolol for over a week now and so far no side effects. (Or none that I can tell anyway!) I'm so blessed by all of you

Thank you
