I have had arrhymias for 20 years or so. I used to get washed out when the heart started skipping beats. About 4 years ago, I stopped drinking decaf coffee and tea and the resting arrhymias stopped and have continued this taking some caf occasionally. All this time, I had also been taking CoQ10 first at 100 mg/day then went to 50mg/day. I work out 3 times/week on the elliptical machine and get my heart rate up to about 110% of my age(74) and have been doing this for some time. That is, cardio workouts.
Lately, when I start the workout, my heartrate would jump up quite erratically to 155-170 bpm and seem to keep this up for the first 5-8 minutes. I use a HR monitor as well as the elliptical machine indicator which responds to the Polar HRM monitor. I mistrust the machine hand grip since they give me a very low reading and went to the doctor about this. A treadmill test showed every thing was fine. I did have PVC's but my cardiologist was not concerned,
About 4 weeks ago I discontinued the CoQ10 when I read that it causes the body not to make its own antioxidents under excercise. The very fast pulse rate no longer occurs and the heart rate accelerates very nicely.
So CoQ10 may not be the right thing for your heart in spite of all the press it got when it first came out some 10-15 years ago. Maybe if one doesn't excercise, it might not be a problem to use it.
