Our Journey with Childhood Acute Myeloid Leukemia

0 Recommendations

Our 5 year old son was diagnosis with High Risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia on July 17, 2009. We spent his 6th birthday in the hospital, his first day of kindergarten in the hospital. We have been here for 2 months. We ended his first round of chemo on July 31st, not only did we end it that day, that was also the day a guy blew through a red light and totaled our MiniVan with me in it. Since the First of August we have been on rest waiting for his ANC to come up. It was up at one point to 399, but has dropped from there. Yesterday his ANC was 209 and today it is 95. It just does not want to go up so we can start the next round of chemo. We also will have to have a bone marrow transplant if we want to try to make sure that he does not relapse, but of course that is not a sure thing either, that it will help us. Our youngest son who is 3 will be the donor for his older brother, he is a perfect match. Our youngest son has been living with my brother in law and his girlfriend since this has started, and we are able to see him every week for a couple of hours. Right now it is just a waiting game. But how long do we wait, until what we have accomplished with the first round of chemo is void and he is full of cancer again???
