Do I keep them in school or out?

My 7 year old daughter, Sara, who was diagnosed with ALL this past January, is coming home in November. She had a cord blood transplant in May at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, TX. Post 142 days and she's in great shape! She has 2 younger sisters, 3 and 5 years old - both are in school. With flu season here I'm wondering if it is best to pull them out of school before Sara comes home so that she doesn't get sick... Her sisters have colds right now. Has anyone gone through a similar situation and what did you do?

My 13 yr. daughter is 2 months out from her chemo for Non Hodgkins. It's such a tough call. I have 2 other daughters in 11th and 4th. We have alerted both other schools and try to keep ahead of all the virus's. I have met with the school that my recovering daughter goes to, and we have all agreed to keep her out of the nurses office because of the germ factor. If she needs something the teachers call the nurse up or they send her to the office to be evaluated. Even our nurse agreed the nurses office at school is the worst place for her.
I am sure the 3 yr, old wouldn't understand much, but if the 5 yr. old is in Kindergarten that might be a tough call. Ultimately, our kids are exposed to so much no matter what. Good luck in your decision. Glad your daughter is doing well!

Thank you for replying! I've decided to pull my daughters out of school since my 5 yr old came down with a fever during school yesterday. Out of 40 kindergarteners, only 26 came to school and more kids were sent home yesterday. Her teacher said they can work with her out of school. So that is good!

Oh no...I hope the fever is due to a quick lived virus. Is there any swine flu in the class? That's great they will be flexible. It will all work out.
Peace to you, stay healthy yourself!

There's no swine flu cases is the class, thank goodness!

I am a little late but I think you made the right choice. I have a 3 year old currently under treatment for lymphoblastic lymphoma and I am now homeschooling his 12 year old sister and 11 year old brother for the same reasons.
