My mother-in-law (age 45) was diagnosed yesterday with squamous cell carcinoma in her right lung, middle lobe. The tumor is partially encasing her bronchial tube and is pressed against her heart, so they do not think surgery will be an option. The cancer was also found in the lymph nodes in her chest up to her collar bone. She will have an MRI of the brain tomorrow and will meet with an oncologist on Monday to discuss chemo and radiation treatments. As can be imagined, our entire family is extremely scared right now. Can anyone else that has had a similar experience give me an understanding of what's to come? I know that we are in for a hard fight, but I know we are all ready to do anything we can to help.
