The Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA)
released a new report on Oct. 13, 2009 regarding robotic vs open prostectomy. Anyone considering or facing this option is recommended to research this report. In a nut shell, it basically says that there is no major advantage between robotic vs open surgery. It suggests to do your homework regarding the procedures, the doctor and most important- HOW MANY SURGERIES THE DOCTOR HAS PERFORMED. I was diagnosed in 2007, at age 42 and underwent robotic prostectomy. I happen to be one of the 5% that has major post surgical issues. If I could turn back the clock, I would have researched the risks involved in detail. Despite how urologists downplay the risk factor. Do your homework! This is coming from someone who has experienced the worst possible risks. Intimacy no longer exists and at age 45, might as well have removed the penis too.
