Hi. I am not an expert on Chemo Drugs, but it is my understanding that there are many different types of chemo drugs available that can be used in different combinations.
My mom is doing chemo for colon cancer for the second time. The last time she did chemo, she was unable to tolerate the drug that she was being given. It made her very ill, and she was unable to complete the treatment.
She is taking a different type of drug this time, and while she is still feeling blah/tired/nauseated/ she seems like she is able to take it.
The National Cancer Society Hotline was a great help to me because you can call and talk to an expert 24/7. If you have a question that requires some research, someone will find the info and call you back.
The number is: 1-800-227-2345.
Hopefully everything will go well for your sister.

Thanks, it just such a big bummer, my sister is a fighter and we have a great family that we be there for her every step of the way.
Thanks again and I will be calling the 800 number with some questions.

Hi Family Girl,

I know that it's hard to watch your loved one go through this. Don't think of this as a setback...it's good that they could test her to see if she would respond to Tarceva. Now that the doc knows she wouldn't, they're not wasting precious time.

Hope the hotline can help with some options.

Sending thoughts your way :)

Thanks Family4Me, its been a tough morning lots of crying just knowing your going to have to take meds that you know will make you sick. My sister starts Avastin/Altima/Carbo Monday 7-13 she feels fine now and she is really scared of the side effects.
I pray to God that this treatment works.
Thanks again
Teresa

Tell her to hang in there. My Dad was on Alimta/Carbo and he didn't have too many side effects. He had a few days after the infusion with nausea, but that was about all.

Sending prayers your way. If you need anything, just holler :)

Hi, I also have lung cancer with bac features. I hope that the treatment works for your sister and yes it is good that you did not have to waste the time on taking tarceva if it was not going to work.. please keep me informed how she does as I am not to that stage yet, but it is nice to know if there is something out there that might work other than the tarceva. since our bac is usually slow growing, it just does not react to the chemo, etc. like faster growing cancer cells, but I have heard now that some of the chemo combos can work my prayers are with you and it will be ok. We all know what you are going thru and also your sister.

Hi Diane, my sister is doing ok after her 1st treatment, she has only slowed down a little....I pray every day and night that they can find some sort of combo that makes it stop and freezes it or something.
Hope to hear from you and how you are doing?
Thanks,
Teresa

Hi, well I sure hope that something turns up, everyday they have new things that turn up,maybe one day they will have it for what we have.

I feel so so.. anxious of course all the time. I really still cannot believe I have it.

Please keep in touch and let me know how everything is going and try somehow to think positive...

hugs
