protein powders during chemotherapy

1 Recommendation

Researching protein supplements to be used during chemo for colon cancer.

Have heard that some brands of supplements have harmful long term effects..

Have heard WHEY protein makes the cancer cells vulnerable and easier to kill during chemo.

Please respond with your experience. Thanks!

Cancer Chemotherapy

Talking about protein powder… My husband went to the nutritionist when I was into my 1st week of radiation and chemo just a couple weeks ago. He had been making me juices from vegetables and fruits as well as plugging me full of vitamins. She stressed the need for protein and calcium and was informing me that it will be difficult swallowing soon because of the radiation. (They had to go thru my lungs as well as my lower esophagus). When week 2 arrived my husband began pushing the whey protein powder in anything I ate or drank, and ended up with just water and protein last week. My medical doctor said something about protein powder was known to help with nausea as well as calcium. Don’t know if it weakens the cancer cells, but it sure was helpful when I couldn’t eat and swallowing anything liquids difficult. The medical oncologist also said to avoid sugars and fats. Sugars may increase cell and tumor growth although he didn’t give me any current resources to substantiate it.
